Job Overview

Executive Director Position Summary:

With minimal supervision and direction, manage organizational strategy and communication promote Energy Share of Montana products and services, develop and manage organizational budget, planning, policy development, fundraising, supervision of staff, reporting to the Board of Directors on organizational health and strategy, and community and employee relations.

Essential Functions:

· Determines the organizational goals and develops the plan for achieving these goals with staff input as appropriate, and the approval of the Board.

· Coordinates the subcommittees of the Board, i.e. set up meetings, do research and groundwork, prepare proposals for the full Board.

· Assesses, formulates, prepares and defends budget requests. Presents those requests, statements, and reports to the Board for approval, or local, state or federal government.

· Manages employee performance, expectations, job duties, compensation program, development, discipline and other employee issues.

· Considers the broad spectrum of factors when making decisions, considers alternatives, and seeks input from appropriate sources. Prepares material for the Board and committee meetings. Involves the Board in appropriate decisions and is responsive to problems or suggestions presented by the Board.

· Works to promote a good image of the organization to the community, and is responsive to community concerns. Coordinates organizational services with other service providers in the community and represents the organization before the Public Service Commission and Legislature; may be required to provide testimony and defend organizational policy and positions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

Must have a Bachelor’s degree and at least four (4) years of relevantexperience.

Preferred: Experience with Board of Directors, Executive Director Experience, and demonstrated leadership experience.

AND

· Able to interact with others effectively

· Experience in effective fundraising principles

· Experience with managing and analyzing effectiveness of such programs

· Knowledge of the Montana Legislative process

· Good working knowledge of the Public Service Commission and its procedures

· Good working knowledge of and skills with Microsoft Office software

· Skilled in representing the organization in front of the Legislature and the Public Service Commission

· Experience in managing budgets in excess of $1,000,000

· Experience in endowment development, fund raising and management

· General understanding of financial markets and ability to communicate with investment fund managers and Board regarding investments

· Ability to work with governing board as CEO

· Knowledge of state programs and fiscal operations

· Understand generally, fund based accrual accounting

· Effective leadership, management and supervision of workforce

· Analytical abilities and good grasp of details

· Ability to see the “big picture” while dealing with short-term, narrow-range problems

· Ability to assume full responsibility/availability for all organizational programs on a full time basis

· Ability to support, promote and develop vision and strategy for the future success of Energy Share of Montana.
