Job Purpose/Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Grant Accountant to join our Finance Department. The ideal candidate will have accounting experience, strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a strong understanding of accounting principles and GAAP. The Grant Accountant will help ensure strong internal controls, accurate financial records, compliance with organizational policies and grant requirements, and provide support to HopeLink’s departments and programs throughout the grant lifecycle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform financial administration of federal, state, local, and private grants.
- Track grant revenues and expenditures in the general ledger and ensure proper coding.
- Monitor expenditures for compliance with grant agreements and eligibility requirements.
- Prepare monthly reimbursement requests and drawdowns, communicating with the grantors as needed to address questions, provide documentation, and ensure timely submission of invoice packets.
- Maintain organized grant files, documentation, agreements, budgets, and reporting schedules.
- Perform accounts payable functions in accordance with grant guidelines, including reviewing invoices and supporting documentation, coding expenses, processing check requests and payments, and maintaining accurate vendor records.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and company credit cards, promptly identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Review and resolve Positive Pay exceptions received by email and complete Positive Pay daily through HopeLink’s operating bank account.
- Monitor outstanding checks and follow up with appropriate departments regarding their status. Maintain communication with grantors as needed.
- Daily entry of DonorPerfect transactions into the accounting system.
- Support fiscal year-end audits, including Single Audits and funder-specific monitoring reviews.
- Assist with grant budget development and pre‑award financial review, as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Minimum of four years of accounting experience, preferably with grants, nonprofit, or governmental accounting.
- Experience with account reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and general ledger accounting required.
- Equivalent combinations of education and relevant professional experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong reconciliation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and recurring accounting cycles.
- Ability to learn and effectively utilize cloud-based financial and organizational systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Finance staff, program leadership, and other departments.
- Ability to identify discrepancies, research issues, and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, integrity, and commitment to maintaining confidential information.
- Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong understanding of Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and federal/state grant compliance.
- Knowledge of governmental or nonprofit accounting principles and GAAP.
- Ability to analyze budgets, expenditures, and financial activities for accuracy.
- Proficiency in accounting software, including QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Pay: $63,000.00 - $73,000.00 per year
