Overview

Empire National Inc. is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Safety / Driver Coach to join our growing team in Fletcher, NC. This role is critical in supporting our drivers, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting safe driving practices across our fleet. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of FMCSA regulations, ELD systems, and experience in driver training or coaching. This is a fast-paced role that requires excellent communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and a passion for safety and team development.

Responsibilities

Monitor driver performance using Motive (formerly KeepTruckin), including events like hard braking or unsafe turns.
Assist drivers with Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections via platforms such as Whiparound.
Review Bills of Lading (BOLs) and compare with ELD logs for accuracy.
Track Hours of Service (HOS) to ensure compliance with FMCSA standards.
Address and resolve issues related to Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs).
Issue and document warning letters, safety bonuses, and coaching records.
Maintain up-to-date documentation on driver safety records, inspections, and training.
Conduct preventative safety calls and support ongoing driver education.
Monitor onboard cameras for safety compliance and coaching opportunities.
Compare EFS fuel stops with ELD data for consistency.
Contact drivers who are out of compliance and guide them toward resolution.
Use systems such as Sentix or Tenstreet for designing flyers and safety materials.
Conduct quarterly safety meetings, log participation, and maintain notes in CRM systems.
Complete and update driver safety rating reports.
Monitor weather conditions and communicate potential driving risks.
Perform random drug and alcohol testing as needed.
Collaborate with dispatch, safety, and operations teams to support overall fleet performance.

Experience

Previous experience in driver coaching, fleet safety, or a transportation compliance role.
Familiarity with safety and inspection platforms such as Motive and Whiparound.
Working knowledge of FMCSA regulations, ELD, and HOS compliance.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage records, reports, and compliance data.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general office software.
Effective communicator—comfortable talking with drivers and explaining safety protocols clearly.
Experience with Tenstreet, Sentix, PingHQ, or similar systems is a plus.
Basic mechanical knowledge or transportation logistics experience is a bonus.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required.
Must be willing to assist in additional duties as needed and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
