SUMMARY:
Function: Will design, develop, and optimize wet chemical and manufacturing processes for new and existing materials within the research and development department to meet customer requirements and improve work efficiency and safety.
Scope: To safely and efficiently conduct critical testing of prototype products, development samples, and raw materials in a lab setting, and/or clean room environment, while strictly adhering to established standard operating procedures and company policies. Under general supervision, use experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Maintenance of general paperwork and quality documents.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Monitor, evaluate, and assess job site conditions and equipment functionality, including inspecting, detecting, observing, identifying, and flagging concerns, challenges, hazards, equipment malfunctions, etc. to ensure work is performed efficiently and safely.

Use and operate a personal computer, office equipment and other technological devices frequently and consistently throughout each day with a high degree of skill, accuracy, and independent judgment for the purpose of reviewing, analyzing, creating, transmitting, and presenting documents, data, and other business-related information.

Efficiently and quickly analyze, process, manipulate, and accurately record extensive amounts of data (some of which is technical or complex in nature) and other information that serves as the basis for this position. Interpret, distill, and present complicated and/or technical information to employees, customers, and others in understandable and relatable terms to aid and enhance levels of understanding and implementation.

Adherence to corporate, State and Federal regulations and guidelines when handling hazardous materials or when exposed to hazardous situations. Must adhere to departmental and corporate standard operating procedures, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Creates the documents and sets standards for new processes, materials and equipment.

Modifies and optimizes existing processes and equipment.

Reads and interprets patents, research articles, and developing documentation.

Communicates and collaborates with Research and Development team in TOK-Japan, TOW-Taiwan, and TOW-AM for aforementioned work.

Participates in external technical meeting with customer if necessary.

Obtains necessary data and documentation for scaling lab-level prototypes to mid/high volume manufacturing.

Creates documentation for chemicals for inventory and waste generated after testing or processing.

Provides custom manufacturing of chemical solutions for customers and internal evaluations.

Provides troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment.

Assists in operations for new projects.

Pursues activities for continuous improvement related to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Performs other related duties related to the smooth operation of the facility as required, including cleaning and housekeeping.

Assists in shipping management of samples and/or products.

Periodical
Attending annual and/or quarterly refresher courses related to hazardous waste management and handling, general safety, quality management, and environmental management.
Requirements:
SUPERVISION:
Receives: Direct supervision is provided by the department supervisory team. (Team Leader, Manager, and General Manager). Completed work is reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with the established guidelines.
Given: Process Engineer supervises R&D technicians and participates in performing data collection, data analyses and sample manufacturing.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Internal:
- B.A. or B.S. in chemistry, physics, materials science, electronics, or relevant education. M.S. degree is a plus.
- 2 years of experience working in TOKA R&D department.
- Experience working independently and taking ownership of projects from initiation through completion
- Previous laboratory experience and demonstrated understanding of concepts related to product development is preferred.
- Previous knowledge of wafer and wet process tool experience (bench tool, single wafer tool).
- Practical working knowledge of scale-up and manufacturing of new chemical products and processes is preferred.
- Strong background and sufficient experience in materials characterization.
External:
- B.A., B.S. or M.S in chemistry, physics, materials science, electronics, or relevant education.
- 3 years of process engineering or chemical engineering working experience with B.A/B.S or no experience with M.S degree or higher with Research Thesis.
- Previous laboratory experience in research setting in wet chemical
- Understanding of concepts related to product development is preferred.
- Previous knowledge of wafer and wet process tool experience/semiconductor equipment (WET TOOL, CMP, Clean Track).
- Practical working knowledge of scale-up and manufacturing of new chemical products and processes is preferred.
- Strong background and sufficient experience in materials characterization.
REQUIRED PERSONAL SKILLS:
1. Maintain ISO document and record control.
2. Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with highly technical customers and diverse audiences. Japanese oral and written skills preferred
3. Ability to generate and/or maintain monthly documentation for equipment.
4. Ability to effectively communicate in both English and Japanese (both oral and written) is preferred.
5. Have stable, verifiable work history with excellent attendance record.
6. Must be comfortable working with chemicals including, but not limited to, corrosives and organic solvents.
7. Must be a team player as regularly working with other professionals.
8. Good time management
9. Software proficiency in MS Office, Adobe/Foxit, JMP.

FURTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Process Engineer needs to be able to work additional hours as directed by supervisory staff. Process Engineer needs to be able to work various shifts as directed by supervisory staff. Process Engineer must have a reliable means of transportation to and from the work site.
