Job Title: Kitchen Manager
Location: Mālamalama Waldorf School
Position Type: Part-Time (Approx. 20–26 hrs/week)
Hourly: $20–$22/hour

Mālamalama Waldorf School is a nurturing school dedicated to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and a love for learning in our students. We believe in the holistic development of each child, integrating arts, academics, and practical skills into our curriculum. Our kitchen plays a key role in supporting the health and well-being of our community through nutritious, lovingly prepared meals.

Position Overview:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Kitchen Manager to join our school community. This position is responsible for overseeing daily kitchen operations, coordinating with staff, ensuring compliance with USDA and food safety standards, and supporting the preparation of wholesome meals for our students. The ideal candidate will be organized, communicative, and passionate about providing healthy food in a school setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and manage nutritious menus in collaboration with the Kinderhale Director
Oversee food purchasing and maintain inventory in line with USDA guidelines
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment
Perform and coordinate deep cleaning during seasonal breaks (summer, winter, spring)
Ensure compliance with USDA/CACFP requirements and submit CNAP documentation in a timely manner
Maintain food handler certification and required training
Monitor kitchen equipment and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed
Track receipts and stay within budget guidelines
Communicate effectively with school staff and administration

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent (culinary or kitchen management certification preferred)
Experience in a kitchen or food service role, ideally in a school or institutional setting
Familiarity with USDA/CACFP guidelines and food safety standards
Strong organization, communication, and leadership skills
Food Handler Certificate through the Hawaiʻi Department of Health (required or willing to obtain)
