Full Job Description

Job Title: Design Engineer
Location: Armstrong Nautical
Department: Engineering
Reports to: Principal Engineer

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated Design Engineer with a passion for marine design and innovation. This position works closely with the lead engineer, technical sales, and production teams to design and deliver cutting-edge marine products and solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaboration & Design: Partner with the engineering and production teams to design and refine Outboard Engine Brackets, Ladders, Deck Plates, and other new marine products.
Produce Detailed Shop Drawings: Create shop drawings that guide fabrication shop employees through the assembly process.
Manufacturing Support: Ensure designs are manufacturable, working closely with manufacturing staff to streamline production without compromising functionality or quality.
Quality Control & Improvement: Implement and maintain processes to ensure all products meet quality standards during manufacturing and before shipping.
Documentation & Archiving: Maintain thorough records of all design files, technical specifications, and project histories for the engineering department.

Bill of Materials (BOM) Responsibilities:

BOM Creation & Management: Develop and maintain accurate BOMs, ensuring all parts, components, and materials are listed with proper specifications.
BOM Accuracy & Updates: Keep BOMs current as designs evolve, ensuring consistency with product builds and manufacturing processes.
Assembly Documentation: Create BOMs to guide assembly and manufacturing teams, defining integration processes in partnership with engineering.
Version Control: Own revision tracking for BOMs, ensuring only the most current version is in use.

Qualifications & Skills:

3D Modeling: Proficiency in 3D modeling (SolidWorks required; experience with Sheet Metal and Weldment features preferred).
2D Drafting Experience: Strong shape drawing and DXF editing/exporting skills.
Fabrication Knowledge: Solid understanding of current industry fabrication techniques — sheet metal fabrication, welding, and assembly.
Education/Experience: Degree in Drafting Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or Marine Engineering preferred, with hands-on design experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Computer Skills: Proficient with standard business software (MS Office, e-mail, internet).

Pay: From $22.00 per hour
