Job Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and continuously improving safety programs related to installation and construction subcontractor activities. This role ensures that all subcontracted field operations are performed in compliance with company safety standards, customer requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
The Safety Manager serves as the primary point of contact for subcontractor safety oversight and works closely with internal project managers, field supervisors, customers, and subcontractor leadership to reduce risk, prevent incidents, and promote a culture of safety across all installation and construction job sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safety Program Oversight
- Develop, implement, and manage the company’s subcontractor safety program for installation and construction activities.
- Establish safety policies, procedures, and expectations for all subcontractors performing field work on behalf of the company.
- Review and evaluate subcontractor safety programs, documentation, and qualifications before project mobilization.
- Ensure subcontractors maintain compliance with company requirements, customer site rules, and all applicable safety regulations.
- Maintain and update safety manuals, training materials, and field safety procedures.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Monitor job site activities to verify adherence to fall protection, PPE, hazard communication, equipment operation, lockout/tagout, housekeeping, lifting, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Stay current on regulatory updates and industry best practices related to construction and installation safety.
- Assist in preparing for customer audits, site inspections, and compliance reviews.
Subcontractor Management
- Prequalify subcontractors from a safety perspective, including review of EMR, OSHA logs, certificates of insurance, training records, safety manuals, and incident history.
- Conduct safety orientations and onboarding for subcontractors prior to field activity.
- Communicate safety expectations clearly to subcontractor supervisors and crews.
- Partner with project management and procurement teams to ensure safety requirements are incorporated into contracts, scopes of work, and bid packages.
- Monitor subcontractor performance and recommend corrective actions, suspension, or removal when safety standards are not met.
Job Site Safety Monitoring
- Conduct regular field audits, jobsite inspections, and safety observations for active installation and construction projects.
- Identify hazards, unsafe behaviors, and non-compliance issues, and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
- Document inspection findings, issue reports, and track follow-up actions to closure.
- Support safe planning for high-risk work activities, including elevated work, rigging, material handling, equipment use, and site logistics.
Incident Management
- Lead or support investigations involving safety incidents, near misses, injuries, property damage, or regulatory violations involving subcontractors.
- Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain accurate records for incident reporting, corrective actions, inspections, and training.
- Prepare incident summaries and trend reports for leadership review.
Training and Culture Development
- Develop and deliver safety training for internal teams and subcontractor personnel as needed.
- Promote a proactive safety culture focused on hazard recognition, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support toolbox talks, pre-task planning, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and daily safety meetings.
- Coach project teams and subcontractor supervisors on safe work practices and risk mitigation.
Collaboration and Reporting
- Work closely with project managers, field personnel, operations leadership, HR, and subcontractor management to align safety expectations with project execution.
- Provide regular reporting on safety metrics, audit results, incident trends, and subcontractor compliance status.
- Recommend improvements to company safety standards, procedures, and subcontractor qualification processes.
- Assist with customer-required safety documentation, pre-job planning packages, and safety submittals
- Regular, reliable attendance at the worksite for the duration of scheduled shifts, including mandatory overtime.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of safety experience in construction, installation, industrial contracting, or a related field.
- Experience overseeing subcontractor safety programs and field compliance.
- Strong knowledge of construction safety practices, hazard recognition, and jobsite risk mitigation.
- Experience conducting audits, investigations, and corrective action follow-up.
- Experience working with multi-site projects and external contractors preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and general industry safety requirements.
- Ability to interpret and enforce safety policies, procedures, and regulations in field environments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence subcontractors, field crews, and leadership.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety reporting/documentation systems.

Certifications or Licenses
Working Conditions
This position frequently travels to active installation and construction job sites. Regular exposure to field conditions including warehouses, construction sites, manufacturing facilities, and outdoor job sites.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and inspect work areas for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry typical field safety equipment and PPE as needed.
- Ability to walk job sites, climb ladders or stairs, observe elevated work, and access active project areas while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must be able to wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, gloves, and steel-toe footwear.
- Work Schedule:
- The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. with occasional evening or weekend work as needed to meet deadlines or attend events. Work schedules may vary based on position/department.

Pay: $77,350.00 - $91,000.00 per year
