Full Job Description

Jamie Benway with Robert Half is looking for an experienced Controller to provide financial leadership for a mission-driven non-profit organization in Oregon. This role will oversee core accounting operations, strengthen reporting accuracy, and support sound decision-making across the organization. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, steady leadership, and the ability to manage a reliable month-end close process in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

Lead daily accounting activities and guide the organization’s financial operations with accuracy and consistency.
Direct the month-end close process, ensuring timelines are met and financial results are thoroughly reviewed.
Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and supporting documentation for leadership and board-level review.
Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures that promote compliance, transparency, and effective stewardship of funds.
Supervise and mentor finance staff, setting clear expectations and supporting growth within the team.
Partner with organizational leaders to develop budgets, monitor performance, and provide practical financial insight for planning.
Coordinate audits and assist with external reporting requirements by organizing records and responding to requests efficiently.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and strengthen the effectiveness of financial processes.

Demonstrated experience in a Controller or senior-level finance leadership role.
Strong background in accounting operations, financial reporting, and oversight of month-end close activities.
Proven ability to lead, develop, and support finance team members in a detail-oriented setting.
Solid understanding of internal controls, budgeting, and standard accounting practices.
Experience working in a non-profit environment or familiarity with non-profit financial management is preferred.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with careful attention to detail.
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
