The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Construction, has a full-time vacancy for a Field Engineering Technician I - III position.
SUMMARY :
FIELD ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I:
Performs routine technical duties at designated construction project sites, field offices, and laboratories involving testing, surveying, measuring, and documenting for the Department of Transportation’s Construction Bureau.
FIELD ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN II:
Performs routine technical and minor administrative duties at designated construction project sites, field offices, and laboratories involving testing, surveying, measuring, and documenting for the Department of Transportation’s Construction Bureau.
FIELD ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN III:
Performs skilled technical and administrative duties at designated construction project sites, field offices, and laboratories involving testing, surveying, measuring, and documenting for the Department of Transportation’s Construction Bureau.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
FIELD ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I:
Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential.
Experience: Two years experience as an Engineering Aide, one year of which shall have been at a level equivalent to Engineering Aide II.
OR
Education: Associate's degree from a recognized college or technical institute with a major study in engineering, landscape, architecture, forestry, horticulture, environmental studies, agronomy, geology, soil science or earth science.
Experience: No experience required.
License/Certification: Valid driver's license and access to transportation
Other Requirements: Applicant’s Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet minimum standards established by Department of Transportation

FIELD ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I:
Conducts field tests of soils, concrete, and bituminous material to assure conformance with contract specifications.
Assists inspection of contractor’s performance to ensure compliance with contract plans and specifications.
Documents information and provides assistance in preparing project records showing the quality and quantity of the completed work.
Performs audits on project records and corrects errors.
Gathers and maintains specific records of engineering and technical data with the use of surveying and drafting equipment.
Checks layout and placement of roadway and bridge construction items.
FIELD ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN II:
Inspects contractor’s performance to ensure compliance with contract plans and specifications.
Conducts field tests of soils, concrete, and bituminous material or supervises consultant testing to ensure conformance with contract specifications.
Makes field measurements of constructed work items for documentation and payment.
Documents information and prepares, or provides assistance in preparing, project records showing the quality and quantity of the completed work.
Performs audits on project records and corrects errors.
Gathers and maintains specific records of engineering and technical data with the use of surveying and drafting equipment.
Uses surveying and drafting equipment when required.
Checks layout and placement of roadway and bridge construction items.
Administers minor resurfacing and highway contracts.

FIELD ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN III:
Oversees phases of engineering construction projects to ensure the contractor’s compliance with the plans and specifications.
Oversees or performs field-testing of soils, concrete, and bituminous material to ensure conformance with contract specifications.
Makes field measurements of constructed work items for documentation and performs calculations for progress payments.
Documents information and prepares project records showing the quality and quantity of the completed work.
Assists in the inspection of safety devices to ensure the safety of the traveling public, pedestrians, and construction workers.
Oversees the audit of project records for completeness and accuracy.
Checks the layout for bridges, drainage structures, buildings, and roadway to enable project to be constructed as designed.
Administers resurfacing contracts and/or minor roadway and bridge contracts as a Contract Administrator.
