Position Summary:
The AI Strategy &Innovation Intern is a part-time, hourly role designed to support the organization’s innovation initiatives while providing meaningful, hands-on experience for a student in their junior or Senior year pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Working closely with the Innovation Professional, Director of Innovation, and Vice President of Innovation, the intern will help identify, evaluate, design, and implement AI-driven solutions that improve operational efficiency, enhance decision-making, and create business value across the organization.
This non-traditional internship offers direct exposure to enterprise AI strategy, AI governance, solution development, emerging technologies, and collaboration with senior leaders to transform innovative ideas into practical business applications. The ideal candidate is passionate about AI, machine learning, data-driven decision making, business process improvement, and leveraging technology to solve complex organizational challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
AI Strategy & Solution Development
- Identify business challenges and opportunities where artificial intelligence, automation, and advanced analytics can create measurable value.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend AI technologies, tools, and platforms aligned with organizational objectives and security requirements.
- Assist in the design, development, testing, and deployment of AI-enabled solutions, prototypes, and proof-of-concepts.
- Translate business requirements into AI use cases, technical requirements, and implementation roadmaps.
- Conduct feasibility assessments, value analyses, and risk evaluations for proposed AI initiatives.
- Support the creation of AI business cases, implementation plans, and executive presentations for innovation opportunities.
AI Governance & Responsible AI
- Assist with the development and maintenance of AI governance processes, standards, and best practices.
- Evaluate AI solutions for security, privacy, compliance, and ethical considerations.
- Support the assessment and mitigation of risks associated with enterprise AI adoption.
- Monitor developments in AI regulations, industry standards, and emerging governance frameworks.
- Contribute to the organization's responsible AI strategy and adoption guidelines.
AI Research & Market Intelligence
- Perform research on emerging AI technologies, industry trends, competitors, and innovative applications relevant to the energy and construction sectors.
- Analyze market intelligence and technology developments to identify strategic opportunities.
- Evaluate AI vendors, products, and platforms through structured assessments and comparative analyses.
- Prepare concise reports, recommendations, and executive briefings summarizing findings and strategic implications.
Data Analytics & Performance Measurement
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure the impact and value of AI initiatives.
- Analyze operational and business data to identify trends, opportunities, and optimization strategies.
- Support the design and deployment of dashboards, reports, and metrics to track AI solution performance and adoption.
- Measure business outcomes including productivity improvements, cost savings, quality enhancements, and user satisfaction.
Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management
- Collaborate with business leaders, subject matter experts, and technical teams to identify AI opportunities and define requirements.
- Facilitate discussions, workshops, and discovery sessions to align stakeholders around AI initiatives.
- Communicate complex technical concepts in a manner that is accessible to business audiences.
- Support organizational AI adoption through training, awareness campaigns, demonstrations, and knowledge-sharing activities.
Foster an AI-Driven Culture
- Promote awareness and understanding of AI technologies throughout the organization.
- Continuously monitor advancements in artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, automation, and data science.
- Share emerging trends, lessons learned, and best practices through presentations, training sessions, Viva Engage posts, and internal documentation.
Performance Measures
- Measure 1: Attain the Certified Innovation Professional (CInP®) credential and/or a relevant AI certification by the conclusion of 2026.
- Measure 2: Conduct at least one AI-focused knowledge sharing session per quarter.
- Measure 3: Maintain an AI Opportunity and Innovation Participation Log documenting identified use cases, projects, and outcomes.
Required Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, automation, or emerging technologies.
- Experience developing software applications, business workflows, automations, or technical solutions.
- Understanding of enterprise technology environments and business process improvement.
- Familiarity with AI model development, prompt engineering, machine learning concepts, or AI-powered business applications preferred.
Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to evaluate complex business challenges.
- Ability to identify opportunities where AI can improve processes, decision making, and business outcomes.
- Knowledge of generative AI platforms, machine learning concepts, and AI solution architectures.
- Understanding of responsible AI principles, security considerations, privacy requirements, and governance frameworks.
- Strong research and technology assessment skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with data analysis, reporting, dashboards, and business intelligence tools.
- Working knowledge of project management methodologies, Agile practices, and solution implementation lifecycles.
- Strong written communication skills with experience producing business cases, strategic recommendations, and executive summaries.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Copilot, Azure AI Services, OpenAI technologies, Power Platform, Power BI, machine learning platforms, or similar AI ecosystems.
- Experience developing AI agents, copilots, chatbots, automation workflows, or intelligent business applications.
- Familiarity with AI governance frameworks, ISO 56000, NIST AI Risk Management Framework, or responsible AI practices.
- Exposure to process mining, advanced analytics, predictive modeling, or decision support systems.
- Experience working with structured innovation management systems and stage-gate methodologies.
