Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce seeks a visionary, collaborative, and results-oriented Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead one of Idaho's most influential business organizations. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO serves as the Chamber's chief executive, strategic leader, and public ambassador, advancing a thriving business environment while championing the economic vitality of Greater Idaho Falls.

The ideal candidate possesses an integral understanding of the region's diverse stakeholders and recognizes the extraordinary opportunities that exist across Eastern Idaho. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both executive vision and operational execution. The successful candidate is equally comfortable in the boardroom, at a legislative meeting, meeting with business owners, or helping execute Chamber events.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Develop and execute the Chamber's strategic vision in partnership with the Board of Directors.
Identify opportunities that strengthen the regional economy and enhance the Chamber's value to its members.
Position the Chamber as a respected leader on issues affecting business and community prosperity.

Relationship Building & Community Leadership

Serve as a trusted connector among businesses, elected officials, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, economic development partners, and community leaders.
Build productive relationships that foster collaboration and long-term regional success.
Represent the Chamber as a credible, nonpartisan, third-party advocate for the business community.

Membership & Business Development

Grow and retain Chamber membership by delivering measurable value.
Engage businesses of all sizes while cultivating strategic partnerships and sponsorships.
Support programs that encourage entrepreneurship, workforce development, and business success.

Organizational Leadership

Lead and develop Chamber staff through effective coaching, accountability, and professional development.
Ensure operational excellence across finance, communications, programming, and member services.
Manage the Chamber's budget and resources with sound financial stewardship.

Governance

Work closely with the Board of Directors to establish priorities, implement policy, and maintain strong governance practices.
Support board development, committee engagement, and volunteer leadership.
Provide timely reporting and recommendations that enable informed decision-making.

Advocacy

Advocate for policies and initiatives that strengthen the regional business climate.
Serve as a respected voice on issues impacting commerce and economic development.

They possess a comprehensive management skill set, including financial stewardship, strategic planning, organizational development, talent management, effective communication, change leadership, and conflict resolution.

The successful candidate understands the critical partnership between a chief executive and a governing board. They have experience working effectively with volunteer leadership, respect the distinct roles of governance and management, and cultivate strong, productive relationships that support sound decision-making and organizational success. As the public face of the Chamber, the CEO serves as a credible, nonpartisan advocate for the business community, representing the collective interests of Chamber members with professionalism and objectivity.

Above all, the ideal candidate is equally comfortable shaping long-term vision and delivering day-to-day results, leading by example through active participation in Chamber programs, member engagement, community events, legislative advocacy, fundraising, and organizational operations. They understand that exceptional Chamber leadership requires visibility, accessibility, and a genuine commitment to serving the business community.

Required Qualifications and Experience

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required; an advanced degree in business, public administration, economic development, nonprofit management, or a related field is preferred.
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible executive or senior leadership experience in business, nonprofit management, economic development, public administration, or a comparable field.
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with a governing board, including supporting board governance, strategic planning, and organizational accountability.
Strong business and financial acumen, with experience in organizational leadership, budgeting, financial oversight, fundraising, sponsorship development, and resource stewardship.
Exceptional communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent the organization effectively before business leaders, elected officials, community stakeholders, the media, and the public.
A reputation for integrity, sound judgment, and collaborative leadership, with the ability to build trust and inspire confidence among diverse stakeholders.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
