You notice when something seems off—and you don't wait for someone else to handle it.
You like being part of a team, take pride in doing things the right way, and understand that caring for animals is incredibly rewarding but also comes with real responsibility.
If that sounds like you, we should probably talk.
Pet Care Plus Resort & Spa has been caring for Chicago's pets since 1998. We're proud to be the longest-running dog daycare and boarding facility in Chicago under the same ownership.
We're much more than a dog daycare. We're a full-service pet care community offering daycare, overnight boarding for dogs and cats, grooming, enrichment, an outdoor pool, pet taxi services, and more.
Everything we do centers around one goal: keeping the pets in our care Safe, Happy, and Healthy.
We believe in caring for the whole pet—physically, mentally, and emotionally—through safe socialization, structured play, enrichment, proper rest, attentive care, and a team that genuinely pays attention.
As a Pet Care Attendant, you'll be hands-on with the animals in our care and play an important role in their safety, happiness, and daily experience.
You'll:
-
Supervise and safely manage group dog play.
- Learn to recognize dog body language, behavior, and communication.
- Redirect inappropriate or overly rough play and help maintain safe, balanced playgroups.
- Care for dogs and cats with different personalities, needs, ages, sizes, and energy levels.
- Follow feeding, medication, rest, and care instructions carefully.
- Clean and sanitize play areas, boarding spaces, equipment, and other parts of the facility.
- Pay attention to changes in a pet's behavior, appearance, appetite, or overall well-being and communicate concerns promptly.
- Provide plenty of positive interaction, affection, structure, and engagement.
- Follow established safety procedures and care standards consistently.
- Work closely with your teammates to keep pets safe and operations running smoothly.
- Step in and help where needed—because great animal care is always a team effort.
- Genuinely love animals of all sizes, breeds, personalities, and energy levels.
- Are dependable and take showing up on time seriously.
- Have positive energy and a strong work ethic.
- Like staying active and busy throughout your workday.
- Pay attention to details and notice when something doesn't seem right.
- Can follow established routines and procedures consistently.
- Stay calm and focused when things get noisy, busy, or unpredictable.
- Take direction well and are open to learning.
- Are comfortable receiving feedback and using it to improve.
- Don't need someone constantly reminding you what needs to be done.
- Enjoy being part of a team and helping others.
- Aren't afraid of barking, shedding, slobber, muddy paws, cleaning—or poop. There's definitely poop.
- Want an opportunity to learn, develop new skills, and potentially move up within a growing organization.
Seriously.
Previous pet care experience is not required. We can teach you about dog behavior, safe handling, group play, animal care, and our procedures.
What we can't teach as easily is reliability, work ethic, a positive attitude, attention to detail, and a genuine willingness to learn.
Experience in animal care, hospitality, customer service, childcare, fitness, retail, restaurants, warehouses, or other active, team-based environments can be helpful—but it isn't required.
This job is incredibly rewarding, but we want to be upfront about what the work actually involves.
This is an active, physical, hands-on job. You'll spend much of your shift standing, walking, bending, cleaning, moving, and interacting with animals.
Dogs bark. Cats have opinions. There will be fur, slobber, muddy paws, accidents, and messes that need to be cleaned up. Some days are busy, loud, unpredictable, and physically demanding.
But you'll also build relationships with pets who are genuinely excited to see you. You'll learn how dogs communicate. You'll watch shy dogs gain confidence, puppies learn how to socialize, and longtime guests race through the door because they know exactly where they are.
The work matters because the animals in our care depend on us to get it right every single day.
- Hands-on experience working with dogs and cats.
- Professional training in dog behavior and body language.
- Experience in safe animal handling and group play management.
- A supportive, team-oriented work environment.
- Opportunities for growth and advancement.
- The chance to build a career in the pet care industry.
- A workplace where no two days are exactly the same.
- A lot of tail wags, happy greetings, and yes, some slobbery kisses.
If you're dependable, energetic, observant, positive, and ready to work hard while doing something that genuinely matters, we'd love to hear from you.
As part of our application process, we'll ask you to complete two short assessments designed to help us learn more about how you naturally work and learn.
The first is a 3–4 minute Behavioral Assessment. This is not a test, and there are no right or wrong answers. Just be yourself, don't overthink it, and answer honestly. You'll receive your results by email after completing it. Once completed, you will receive the link to the 2nd assessment via email.
The second is a 12-minute timed Cognitive Assessment. This is not an IQ or intelligence test. It simply helps us understand how quickly you learn, adapt, and process new information.
These assessments are just one part of our hiring process. We consider the whole person—including your experience, reliability, attitude, work ethic, interview, and overall fit for the role.
Please complete both assessments as part of your application.
