Bottleless Nation is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to support, secure, and improve our cloud-centered IT environment.
Position Overview: This role is responsible for Level 2 technical escalation, Azure infrastructure administration, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration, SQL administration, disaster recovery planning and testing, public DNS and SSL/TLS administration, and secure operation of business-critical systems.
Early priorities for this role include building and testing disaster recovery runbooks, supporting consolidation of SQL data warehouse environments, and improving the security posture and operational readiness of internally developed application platforms.
The ideal candidate can independently support production systems, troubleshoot complex issues, maintain reliable and secure operations, and help Bottleless Nation scale its technology environment through strong documentation, governance, and operational discipline.
Key Responsibilities:
Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
- Maintain disaster recovery plans, procedures, and operational runbooks
- Monitor backup jobs, retention policies, and recovery readiness
- Plan, execute, and document disaster recovery testing
- Validate recovery procedures against business requirements
- Recommend improvements to resilience, availability, RTO, and RPO objectives
- Maintain documentation of critical systems, dependencies, recovery order, and recovery contacts
Azure & Infrastructure Administration
- Administer Azure virtual machines, storage, networking, backups, monitoring, and security configurations
- Maintain Windows Server and cloud-hosted infrastructure
- Manage patching, system maintenance, alerts, and performance issues
- Maintain infrastructure documentation, diagrams, standards, and operational runbooks
- Support privileged access administration and secure cloud resource configuration
- Assist with automation, environment standardization, and operational process improvement
SQL Administration
- Administer SQL Server and Azure SQL environments
- Monitor database backups, restores, availability, and performance
- Maintain SQL security, permissions, and access controls
- Support reporting, analytics, data warehouse, and application teams as required
- Support SQL data warehouse consolidation, standardization, and documentation efforts
Level 2 Technical Support
- Resolve escalated user, device, application, identity, and connectivity issues
- Support Microsoft 365, Entra ID, VPN access, Windows endpoints, and business applications
- Investigate root causes and implement long-term fixes
- Mentor Level 1 support staff and improve knowledge base documentation
- Coordinate escalations with vendors, internal teams, and business stakeholders
Identity Lifecycle & Access Governance
- Administer user provisioning, role changes, group membership, application assignments, and access removal
- Support SSO, enterprise applications, privileged roles, and role-based access models
- Perform periodic access reviews for critical systems and applications
- Maintain documentation of access models, approval processes, and privileged access assignments
- Apply least-privilege principles across infrastructure, SaaS platforms, integrations, and business applications
Public DNS & SSL/TLS Administration
- Administer public DNS zones and records for company-owned domains
- Manage DNS records supporting Microsoft 365, websites, email authentication, and business applications
- Maintain SPF, DKIM, DMARC, MX, TXT, CNAME, and related DNS configurations
- Manage SSL/TLS certificates for websites, APIs, application platforms, and cloud services
- Monitor certificate lifecycle and coordinate timely renewals
- Enforce secure HTTPS configurations and encryption standards
- Troubleshoot DNS resolution, certificate trust, and HTTPS access issues
- Support domain registration, DNS hosting, and migration activities
Monitoring, Alerting & Incident Response
- Monitor infrastructure, applications, backups, endpoints, and security alerts
- Triage incidents and coordinate response across vendors and internal teams
- Document incident timelines, root cause, corrective actions, and lessons learned
- Maintain alert thresholds, escalation paths, and response procedures
- Recommend improvements to reduce repeat incidents and improve system visibility
Application Platform Security & Administration
- Administer and secure access to internally developed and third-party business platforms
- Manage application-level user access, service accounts, certificates, credentials, and secrets where assigned
- Support secure configuration of application platforms, portals, administrative consoles, and cloud services
- Monitor application availability, access issues, authentication failures, and administrative alerts
- Security hardening and operational readiness of internally developed full-stack applications, including identity, access, secrets, certificates, logging, backup, monitoring, and infrastructure configuration
Automation & Process Improvement
- Use PowerShell or similar tools to automate repetitive administration tasks
- Improve operational processes through scripting, templates, and documented procedures
- Reduce manual work in onboarding, reporting, monitoring, patching, and system maintenance
- Identify recurring issues and recommend sustainable improvements
- Monitor backup jobs, retention policies, and recovery readiness
- Plan, execute, and document disaster recovery testing
- Validate recovery procedures against business requirements
- Recommend improvements to resilience, availability, RTO, and RPO objectives
- Maintain documentation of critical systems, dependencies, recovery order, and recovery contacts
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of systems administration, infrastructure, or advanced technical support experience
- Strong customer service mindset and ability to support users across multiple locations
- Strong experience with Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration
- Hands-on experience administering Microsoft Azure infrastructure
- Experience supporting Windows Server and cloud-hosted systems
- Experience with endpoint management, patching, and endpoint security controls
- Working knowledge of SQL Server administration including backups, restores, permissions, and maintenance
- Experience with backup systems, disaster recovery planning, and recovery testing
- Experience administering public DNS records and domain-related services
- Experience managing SSL/TLS certificates for websites, APIs, or cloud-hosted platforms
- Understanding of authentication and authorization concepts including SSO, MFA, service accounts, certificates, and privileged access
- Strong troubleshooting skills across identity, networking, applications, infrastructure, DNS, certificates, and endpoints
- Ability to document systems, procedures, changes, incidents, and root-cause resolutions clearly
Preferred Qualifications
- Azure Administrator certification or equivalent practical experience
- Experience with Power platform scripting and automation
- Experience with endpoint management, RMM, EDR, or security monitoring tools
- Experience with Azure App Registrations, Enterprise Applications, or service principals
- Familiarity with secure application platform administration
- Exposure to secrets management, certificate management, and privileged access administration
- Experience supporting SaaS platforms, vendor integrations, or business-critical applications
- Familiarity with API-based integrations, webhooks, OAuth, API keys, or token-based authentication
- Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot, enterprise AI platforms, or AI governance concepts
- Exposure to vulnerability management, patch compliance, and incident response
