Optical Coating Technician
Reynard, a manufacturer of thin film coated optical products for a variety of markets including Aerospace, Medical, Defense, Imaging, Automotive, and general R&D, has an immediate opening for an Optical Coating Technician - 2nd shift.
The candidate must possess a solid understanding of basic math and be motivated to excel. Working knowledge of simple mechanics and best-practice production / manufacturing fundamentals is preferred but not required, as training will be provided.
Job Duties
- Setup and operate vacuum chambers to deposit thin film coatings on precision optics
- Document operational parameters of production equipment
- Complete / fill in all fields in as-furnished manufacturing documentation
- Use specialized equipment to measure spectral performance of as-built coatings
- Perform visual inspection of optical surfaces before and after coating
- Make Pass/Fail disposition of as-built performance by comparing as-built performance to requirements
- Proactively communicate process and/or equipment issues to Management/Engineers
- Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks
- Maintain constant awareness of multiple interdependent factors and their interaction in the coating process.
- Cleans and maintains coating systems and other equipment
- Work within an ISO9001 Quality Management System and Reynard Corporation Quality Policy
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Required Qualifications, Credentials, and Education
- Excellent communication skills with fluency in compositional and conversational English
- Excellent attention to detail
- Eager to learn new skills
- Follow and execute detailed written procedures
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Excel and Word
- High school diploma or equivalent
- US Person as defined by 22 CFR 120.15 (Citizen, Permanent Resident)
Preferred Experience / Education
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
- One or more years of experience with optical coating materials and procedures
- One or more years of experience in operation of vacuum deposition equipment (electron beam, sputtering, resistive evaporation, chemical vapor deposition)
- Working knowledge of cleanroom protocol(s)
- Working knowledge of optic and/or semiconductor cleaning processes
- Able to troubleshoot vacuum chambers and supporting sub-systems (heaters , temperature controllers, planetaries, vacuum pumps, deposition sources)
- Veteran of Armed Services (honorable discharge)
- AA or AS from accredited program with 2 or more years’ experience in relevant field
- Ability to troubleshoot, repair and maintain equipment
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools
- Ability to work under timelines and pressure
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and written specifications
- Perform mathematical calculations using formulas, conversions, and ratios
- Knowledge of physics and mathematics (preferred)
- Ability to multitask
- Work effectively without direct supervision
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Ability to stand and walk 8-10 hours a day
- Exposure to chemicals, solvents, and coating materials
- Use of safety glasses, facemask respirator, and latex gloves required
- Ability to lift and/or carry at least 20 lbs
