About ProgUSA
ProgUSA has been selling and supporting high-end electrical test equipment since 2005. Two decades, one market. Our customers are power utilities, NETA testing firms, substation groups, and electrical equipment OEMs across the United States. Most of the lines we carry are exclusive to us.
We are not a catalog house. Our model is Equipment + Education + Service = Partnership. Customers buy from us because our people understand transformer winding tests, SF6 handling, contact resistance, corona imaging, and power quality well enough to have a real conversation with the engineer who has to use the instrument.
The Role
You own a territory and you carry a number. You call on power utilities, NETA testing firms, and industrial and OEM accounts. You match our test equipment to their applications, and you close and grow the business. Hunter and farmer, not order-taker.
This is a home-office role. You run your territory from wherever you live in the footprint: Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky, or Western Pennsylvania. No commute, no office days.
What you will do
- Own the sales number for your territory. Build the pipeline, work it, close it.
- Sell technical test equipment into utilities, NETA firms, substations, and electrical OEMs: transformer diagnostics, breaker and contact resistance testing, SF6 analysis, corona and thermal imaging, power quality, hipot, and battery testing.
- Run product demonstrations and technical presentations at customer sites, trade shows, and utility conferences.
- Keep your pipeline and quotes current in the CRM. Follow up on every aging quote. No deal goes cold from neglect.
- Work with our vendors (DV Power, RH Systems, Hipotronics, UViRCO, FOTRIC, and others) to position products and stay current on the technology.
- Coordinate with the independent rep firms already working in the region. You are not managing them, you are working alongside them.
What we are looking for
- Three or more years selling technical or engineered products into the electric power industry: utilities, NETA firms, electrical testing companies, or electrical OEMs. This is analog electrical power. Not IT, not data networking, not data centre UPS.
- Comfortable talking about test and measurement, substation testing, or power quality with the engineer who will use the instrument.
- A track record of carrying and hitting a number, with figures you can point to.
- Able to present confidently to utility engineers, substation managers, and NETA technicians.
- CRM discipline. We provide the PC.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel roughly 40%.
- Able to lift demonstration equipment up to 40 lbs.
Nice to have
- Formal education in electrical power technology or electrical engineering.
- Existing relationships in the utility, NETA, or industrial testing markets in the Midwest or Mid-Atlantic.
- Hands-on experience with transformer testing, SF6 gas analysis, circuit breaker testing, thermal or corona imaging, or battery bank testing.
- Background as a field service technician or test engineer who moved to the commercial side. Some of the best people in this business came up that way.
What we offer
- Base salary plus uncapped commission. On-target earnings of $130,000 to $150,000 as the territory ramps. The target is a floor to build on, not a ceiling.
- Company-funded health coverage. ProgUSA funds an ICHRA toward the individual health plan you choose, reimbursing premiums and qualifying medical expenses tax-free.
- Expense allowance, cell phone reimbursement, and a company-provided PC.
- Paid time off and a flexible schedule.
- Home office anywhere in the territory.
- A vendor line card people in this industry actually want to sell. DV Power, RH Systems, Hipotronics, UViRCO, FOTRIC, CHK Power Quality, Enervac, Synecom.
- A short chain of command. You work directly with the President. No layers, no politics, no waiting six weeks for a pricing decision.
- Factory training with our vendors. You will know these instruments cold.
Who fits here
The person who does well at ProgUSA is curious, listens more than they talk, and is disciplined about follow-up. They are comfortable being the most technical person in a sales conversation and the most commercial person in a technical one.
If you are a technical sales professional in the electrical power world who wants a territory to own, uncapped upside, and room to grow as the company grows, this is that job.
