Full Job Description

Title: Emergency Medical Services Instructor

Job Summary

The Emergency Medical Services Instructor works under the supervision of the EMS Education Program Director. The instructor participates in the assessment, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of program curriculum. The instructor conducts classroom, skills lab, and online instruction for EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic courses.

This position is responsible for delivering quality instruction and participating in evaluation of student learning and assessment of course and program outcomes. The instructor will also participate in service activities to support the College’s mission.

Job Duties

Teach evening, weekend, off-campus, dual enrollment, and distance-based courses as required.
Provide appropriate and effective instruction while creating and contributing to a supportive learning environment for students within and beyond the classroom.
Participate in student advising for the Emergency Medical Services Education Program.
Actively participate in development, evaluation, and review of program and curriculum, including assisting with or leading affiliation and accreditation efforts as applicable.
Attend to administrative duties, including completion of required college trainings and timely submission of attendance reporting, progress reports, grades, survey responses and other required information.
Contribute to college service, including Student-Focused Service and Mentorship (advising, career services, student organization sponsorship, etc.) and committee, taskforce, and project work at the college, division, and department level, and support student recruitment and retention efforts as appropriate.
Engage in regular professional development around pedagogy, maintain up-to-date subject-matter expertise, and support a culture of lifelong learning.
Assist in compliance with Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines, licensure requirements, and other state and federal regulations while maintaining program accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon recommendation of Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the EMS Professions (CoAEMSP).
Comply with any required reporting to Tennessee Department of Health/Office of EMS.
Collaborate with other outside agencies to identify new courses and programs.
Coordinate with the program Clinical Coordinator on clinical sites including facilitating orientation to sites, functioning as an emergency contact, and providing a line of communication with clinical sites.
Travel for training and conferences is required at times.
Maintain an inventory of training equipment and assure it is available at each class
Act as a liaison between students, sponsoring agencies, local medical community and state level certifying/licensing agency and participate in advisory committee meetings.
Complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Minimum of two years practicing in the pre-hospital environment
Minimum of two years EMS educational experience or greater the 300 hours instructional experience in EMS training or programs.
Currently endorsed in an EMS Board approved trauma, cardiac, and pediatric course.
Must meet requirements established by the Tennessee Department of Health/Division of EMS.
Completion of an EMS Board approved instructors’ course.
Must be licensed as a Paramedic in Tennessee and license must be free from revocation, denial, or suspension.
Currently certified as a CPR Instructor.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Supervisory or management experience.
Collegiate-level teaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge and/or experience delivering effective instruction in a variety of formats, including but not limited to asynchronous online, traditional on-ground, or hybrid
Ability to use a learning management system for course delivery and maintenance of course records.
Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with multiple faculty, staff, student, medical, and industry populations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and any technologies or software pertinent to the subject area of instruction.

Pay Rate: $50,643 - $60,772 (Annual salary depending on eligible experience, which is defined by the current compensation plan.)
