Position Summary
The Engineering Technician performs advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, inspection, and training support activities for military wheeled vehicles and associated systems. This position is responsible for diagnosing and correcting mechanical and electrical faults, conducting preventative maintenance, documenting maintenance activities, and supporting the operational readiness of tactical vehicle platforms. The incumbent will provide technical expertise related to vehicle maintenance, equipment modifications, and system improvements while maintaining compliance with applicable military, safety, and quality standards.
This position requires extensive travel to support field operations, equipment testing, training events, and maintenance activities at various locations, up to 50% of the time.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintenance and Repair
- Diagnose, repair, replace, and test vehicle components to restore equipment to operational status.
- Conduct functional testing and inspections following maintenance activities.
- Perform preventative, corrective, and diagnostic maintenance on military wheeled vehicles and related equipment.
- Support all vehicle systems, including:
- Engine systems
- Automatic and manual transmissions
- Suspension systems
- Brake systems
- Electrical and electronic systems
- Communications systems
- Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC)
- Ancillary systems and subsystems
Technical Documentation and Recordkeeping
- Review technical manuals, maintenance procedures, service advisories, and service bulletins to identify required maintenance actions.
- Document maintenance, repair, and inspection activities accurately and completely.
- Annotate, update, and maintain maintenance documentation and databases.
- Maintain serialized parts inventories, including warranty tracking and parts accountability.
Installation and Modification Support
- Install and integrate mounts, brackets, cables, connectors, communications equipment, electronic systems, and associated hardware.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, sketches, and technical drawings.
- Provide analysis and recommendations for equipment installation, operation, modification, and maintenance improvements.
Training and Field Support
- Support Field Level Maintenance New Equipment Training (FLMNET) for LTV platforms.
- Provide classroom instruction and hands-on practical training related to vehicle maintenance and operational procedures.
- Travel to field locations to support maintenance, training, inspections, and operational requirements.
Quality and Safety
- Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures and protocols.
- Follow quality assurance standards and inspection requirements.
- Ensure repairs are completed accurately and within established timelines.
- Maintain compliance with government, customer, and company policies and procedures.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience
One of the following combinations is required:
- Associate Degree and at least three (3) years of relevant experience supporting integration, installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of military wheeled vehicles; OR
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) and at least five (5) years of relevant experience supporting integration, installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of military wheeled vehicles.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Interim Secret Clearance required prior to start.
- Valid driver's license.
- Valid passport with ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DD Form 346, U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator's Identification Card.
- Availability to work flexible schedules, including extended hours, weekends, and holidays, sometimes on short notice.
- Formal mechanical training obtained through military service or accredited postsecondary education.
- Demonstrated experience providing classroom and hands-on training related to vehicle maintenance.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, components, materials, and maintenance processes.
- Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and specialty maintenance tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in field and shop environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Secret Security Clearance.
- GM certification, ASE A1/A8 certification, or ASE Master Technician certification.
- Medium-duty and heavy-duty diesel maintenance experience.
- Experience using CAT ET, DG Diagnostics, and DANA testing tools.
- Knowledge of quality management systems, inspection procedures, and quality assurance programs.
- Extensive experience supporting military tactical ground vehicles, including troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, installation, and system checkout activities.
Physical Requirements
- Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly without assistance.
- Climb into and work within confined spaces of military tactical vehicles.
- Frequently reach, grasp, twist, bend, stoop, squat, walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.
- Safely manipulate equipment, components, and tools in confined working environments.
- Successfully pass and maintain Department of Transportation (DOT) medical examination requirements.
Work Environment
The work environment includes maintenance facilities, military installations, training locations, and field operating environments. Work may be performed indoors or outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, vehicle noise, fuels, lubricants, and other maintenance-related environments.
Pay: $24.60 - $30.09 per hour
