Full Job Description

Job Summary

Distinctive Home & Health Care is a leading provider of healthcare to serve military installations across the United States. Our team of professionals is dedicated to providing the highest quality of service and support for each one of our clients. Distinctive Healthcare is currently seeking to hire a full time Outpatient Medical Coder at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune.

Duties

Review and analyze outpatient medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System) codes based on documented diagnoses and procedures.
Ensure coding accuracy in accordance with the latest medical coding guidelines and regulations established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation when necessary, ensuring precise code assignment for optimal reimbursement.
Utilize advanced medical coding software and electronic health records (EHR) systems to streamline coding processes and maintain accurate records.
Perform medical record abstraction to extract relevant clinical information for billing and reporting purposes.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in ICD coding systems, DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications, and other coding standards relevant to outpatient services.
Support revenue cycle management by ensuring proper coding for outpatient services that aligns with billing requirements and maximizes revenue recovery.
Assist in training or mentoring new staff members on medical coding procedures and compliance standards.

Requirements

Proven 3 years experience in outpatient medical coding within a healthcare setting, with familiarity in both ICD-9 (legacy systems) and ICD-10 coding systems.
Be a Registered Health Information Technologist, Registered Health Information Administrator, a Certified Professional Coder, or a Certified Coder Specialist - Physician.
Strong knowledge of CPT coding, HCPCS levels I and II, and DRG classifications for outpatient procedures.
Proficiency in medical billing, collection processes, and understanding of the revenue cycle management workflow.
Experience working with electronic health records (EHR) systems, electronic health records (EHR) management for billing and coding, and medical coding software tools.
In-depth understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical documentation practices.
Familiarity with medical record abstraction techniques and adherence to medical coding guidelines established by CMS.
Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex clinical information accurately.
