Job Summary:
Fredonia Migrant Education Tutorial & Support Services (Fredonia METS) is seeking a dedicated and Migrant Educator/Advocate (Tutor) to provide essential educational and advocacy services to migrant students. As part of our mission to assist migrant program eligible students in meeting New York State standards for graduation and preparing them for post-high school education and careers, the ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting the educational journey of these students in the eight counties of Western NY. Schedule: The part-time Migrant Educator and Advocate will be asked to work up to 20 hours per week with the ability to work outside normal business hours including some evenings and weekends.
Job Duties:
- In-Person and Virtual Educational Sessions: Conduct in-person educational sessions for migrant students within the designated area. Through in-school and in-home visits, these sessions will be designed to address the unique educational needs and challenges of students from preschool through high school, including out-of-school youth (OSY, ages 16-22). Develop individualized education plans/sessions that align with school and state standards and meet the needs of each student.

Data Tracking: Keep accurate records of the services provided to each student and enter the information into the NYS Migrant Education program database. Regularly update student progress to ensure effective tracking and reporting. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by Program policies. Document comprehensive service and activity records for each assigned student, documenting progress and achievements.

Resource Development: Gather program resources and materials and develop targeted lessons and educational materials aligned with the specific needs of the migrant students in the area.

Curriculum Development: Collaborate with program staff to develop curriculum for various programming and activities that enhance student learning experiences.

Student and Family Engagement: Establish strong rapport with students and their families through home contacts, fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment. Consult and maintain communication with other members of each students' team, including school program staff and parents to ensure a comprehensive approach to meeting each student's needs. Accompany parents/children to school related appointments including parent-teacher conferences, school registration needs, etc.

Security: Maintain and protect confidential or other sensitive information such as Personally identifiable information (PII) as defined by the Program Security Policy.

Professional Development & Growth: Attend local and state meetings, workshops, learning communities and in-service training sessions to stay updated with the latest educational trends, methodologies, and best practices. Actively participate in professional development opportunities to enhance expertise and contribute to the program's success.

Online Platforms: Utilize internet-based platforms for virtual meetings, instruction, and data entry as required for remote service delivery such as Zoom or Face Time along with using email and WhatsApp to communicate.

Required Education/Qualifications:
- Associate degree. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted

Reliable transportation for travel within the designated area to meet with students.

Ability to work across several counties and meet regularly on campus for meetings and academic activities as required.

Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
Preferred Education/Qualifications:
- Experience working with migrant communities, diverse populations, or underserved youth is highly desirable.

Fluency in English and another language (Spanish preferred) to effectively communicate with migrant students and families.

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through along with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines effectively.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, families, school districts, and fellow staff members.

Strong PC skills required including Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to learn and utilize NYS Migrant Ed WebApp (contact/services management system) in an effective and efficient manner to document all activity.

Proficiency in using technology for virtual instruction, data entry, and communication purposes

Commitment to the educational success and empowerment of migrant out-of-school youth.
Additional Information:
Salary: The compensation for this role is between $20.00 - $24.00 an hour. The pay will depend on a variety of factors that may include but are not limited to experience, training, and certifications.
