Full Job Description

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in accounting principles, with a keen eye for accuracy and compliance. The Junior Accountant supports the finance and accounting operations of the organization by assisting with daily accounting activities, financial reporting, and compliance requirements. This entry-level role works under the supervision of the Finance Director and plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting monthly close processes, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and grant reporting requirements common in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) environment.

Duties

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist with preparation and posting of general ledger journal entries
Perform account reconciliations to verify accuracy and completeness of financial records
Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice processing and payment tracking
Assist with payroll reconciliations and related accounting entries
Support monthly and year-end financial close processes
Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation
Assist with audit preparation, including compiling requested financial documentation and schedules
Maintain supporting documentation related to grant accounting and cost reporting compliance
Ensure financial transactions comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and organizational policies
Assist with preparation of financial reports and supporting schedules as requested
Provide additional administrative and accounting support to the finance team as needed

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
0–3 years of accounting or related financial experience
Basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet established deadline

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in healthcare, nonprofit, or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) environments
Familiarity with grant accounting, federal funding compliance, or cost reporting
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

Work Environment

This position operates primarily in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing systems.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Ability to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds
