Full Job Description

CNC Lead Machinist, 2nd Shift

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 3:30 PM–2:00 AM

Pay: $34.00–$38.00/hr

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CNC Lead Machinist to join our manufacturing team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the setup, programming, operation, and inspection of CNC machining equipment to ensure precision and efficiency in metal fabrication processes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong mechanical knowledge, expertise in CNC programming, and leadership capabilities to guide a team of machinists. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to high-quality manufacturing operations by leveraging advanced machining techniques and fostering continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Lead the setup and calibration of CNC machines, including lathes and milling centers, ensuring optimal performance for production runs.
Develop, modify, and troubleshoot CNC programs using G-code and M-code, utilizing CAM software such as SolidWorks and CAD tools.
Interpret complex mechanical blueprints and technical drawings to produce precise components according to specifications.
Conduct precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and other measurement instruments for quality control.
Oversee machine operation during production runs, ensuring adherence to safety standards, quality requirements, and production schedules.
Perform routine maintenance, adjustments, and troubleshooting on CNC equipment including Fanuc controls and grinders.
Train and mentor junior machinists on manual machining techniques, tooling selection, machine setup, and safety protocols.
Implement lean manufacturing principles to improve workflow efficiency and reduce waste.
Conduct quality inspections using GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards to verify component accuracy.
Collaborate with engineering teams on tooling design, fixture development, and process improvements.

Requirements

Proven experience as a CNC Machinist with demonstrated leadership in a manufacturing environment.
Extensive knowledge of CNC programming languages such as G-code and M-code; experience with Fanuc controls preferred.
Proficiency in CAD/CAM software including SolidWorks and other CAD tools for part design and programming.
Strong understanding of blueprint reading, mechanical blueprint interpretation, and precision measurement techniques.
Familiarity with electrical discharge machining (EDM) processes is a plus.
Skilled in manual machining operations such as lathe work, grinding, and the use of hand tools.
Mechanical aptitude with knowledge of machining tools, tooling setup, machine calibration, and basic math skills.
Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately while adhering to GD&T standards.
Knowledge of measurement instruments including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, power tools, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
Commitment to safety procedures and quality standards within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Strong problem-solving skills combined with the ability to lead a team effectively.
