We are looking for an innovative and experienced Senior ColdFusion Software Developer to join our Information Technology team.

Job Summary

The successful Senior ColdFusion Engineer candidate will be involved in developing and modernizing business solutions by maintaining existing ColdFusion applications while driving a strategic migration to a modern architecture. This role will be a primary contributor in designing, coding, debugging, documenting, and supporting applications consistent with established specifications and business requirements to deliver business value. The ideal candidate brings deep ColdFusion expertise paired with a working knowledge of, or strong desire to grow into a modern application architecture. This role embraces AI-assisted development as a core part of the workflow, leveraging tools like Cursor and Claude Code to accelerate the migration from ColdFusion to a modern stack.

Responsibilities

Maintain, enhance, and support existing ColdFusion (CFML) applications while actively participating in the planning and execution of a modernization effort toward a React frontend and Node backend.
Design and develop new application features using React, TypeScript, tRPC, and Kysely as the team transitions away from ColdFusion.
Leverage AI development tools such as Cursor IDE and Claude Code to accelerate code migration, generation, refactoring, and documentation throughout the modernization effort.
Solve unique and complex problems with broad impact to the business, particularly those arising at the intersection of legacy and modern systems.
Participate in the development of business and modernization strategy, including roadmap planning for the application architecture migration.
Translate highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences, including stakeholders unfamiliar with legacy system constraints.
Demonstrate deep understanding of ColdFusion application architecture and how modernized designs will integrate with or replace it.
Incorporate scaling capability into application and system code as applicable, with awareness of cloud-native deployment patterns on Azure and Kubernetes (AKS).
Ensure that application and system code is clearly and comprehensively developed and traceable back to technical specifications.
Ensure integration with testing groups and support QA efforts across both legacy and modernized components.
Work with configuration and release management to develop release plans that ensure proper application deployment across legacy and new environments, including containerized workloads.

Qualifications

5+ years of prior software architecture, development, documentation, and release experience is required.
Strong, hands-on ColdFusion (CFML) development experience is required, including familiarity with ColdFusion application servers.
Experience with or strong working knowledge of React and TypeScript is highly preferred; candidates with ColdFusion expertise who are actively pursuing React/TypeScript skills are encouraged to apply.
Must be willing and able to actively learn and grow into the React/TypeScript stack as part of the modernization initiative.
Comfort and experience using AI-powered development tools such as Cursor IDE and Claude Code is strongly preferred; a willingness to adopt and champion these tools is required.
Experience working with SQL Server databases is required.
Knowledge of Agile and Scrum concepts is required.
Experience with RESTful API design and consumption, including integration between ColdFusion backends and modern frontends, is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and Kubernetes (AKS) including deploying and operating containerized applications in a cloud-native environment is a plus.
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience is a plus.
Strong decision-making skills with the ability to evaluate trade-offs between maintaining legacy systems and prioritizing modernization efforts.
Exceptional analytical, interpretive, and problem-solving skills.
Must be detail oriented and able to ask probing questions to fully understand and potentially improve project requirements.
Must be able to communicate at the proper level, whether with business or technical staff, to optimally understand and then deliver project requirements.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
