Skills Trainer Position Posting

Title: Summer 2025 Skills Trainer.

Location: Multiple Sites within Michigan.

Position Type: Temporary (June through August, depending upon program), at-will, non-exempt, hourly, part-time.

Hourly Range: $18 to $23.25 depending upon experience and education.

Reports To: Program Director .

General Summary

This position involves partnering with individuals with disabilities in the acquisition of work skills necessary to obtain employment and independently maintain employment in the community. Skills Trainers provide ongoing support to Michigan Rehabilitation Services participants working at various employment sites within the community. The work experience is individual-based and centered around work-related goals that focus on partnering with participants to obtain the maximum level of independence within their job. Skills Trainers provide the guidance necessary to ensure success at future employment opportunities.

Position Responsibilities

· Monitor participants’ work performance and provide feedback and redirection prompts when needed.

· Provide proper documentation for participant reports regarding work performance.

· Ensure safety is maintained in the work environment and during transport, if applicable.

· Understand and adhere to established agency policies and procedures. This includes but is not limited to:

a. Attending agency and program orientation sessions as needed.

b. Completing observations of participants along with providing individual feedback to each participant during the course of employment.

c. Demonstrating competency in completing required forms; time reporting; and daily, weekly, mid-session and final reports.

d. Submitting morning attendance check-ins.

· Consistently model appropriate work skills and hold participants to the same expectations.

· Secure a substitute if Skills Trainer must leave early or is absent. Inform supervisor.

· Provide services to participants in alignment with the Pine Lake Fund view of inclusion as stated above.

· Contact your supervisor with as much notice as possible if unavailable to cover your shift.

· Maintain and model positive, professional working relationships with participants, vocational rehabilitation counselors, worksite staff, and other agency staff.

· Accept and integrate supervision. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

a. Following the program administrative staff instructions, directives and procedures.

b. Monitoring by case notes and monitoring checks.

c. Following supervisor instruction/directions regarding service provided to participants as monitored by case notes and supervisor evaluations.

Education

· High school completion, diploma or equivalent.

Requirements and Skills

· Demonstrated interest, insight, and respect for partnering with people from historically underrepresented groups including people with disabilities.

· Able and knowledgeable to cope calmly with emergency situations (i.e. accidents, basic first aid, seizures, behavioral incidents, etc.).

· Exhibits high levels of patience and a positive attitude toward developing participant employment skills.

· Willing to work cooperatively with supervisor, colleagues, work site staff, and vocational rehabilitation counselors.

· Communicate effectively.

· Minimum 18 years of age.

· Possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license.

· Pass a Background Check that meets Pine Lake Fund requirements.

· Pass a motor vehicle check to assure that the Pine Lake Fund insurance will cover you as a driver.

· Detail-oriented with ability to keep accurate and comprehensive records.

· Team-oriented.
