Interim System Director of Pharmacy / Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC)

Location: Bozeman, MT 59715
Job Type: Contract / Interim
Duration: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months), with potential for extension or transition to a permanent opportunity
Start Date: August 17, 2026
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Day Shift
Hours: 40 hours per week

Compensation

Weekly Gross Pay: $6,700
Total Estimated Assignment Pay: $174,200 for the full 26-week assignment

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Interim System Director of Pharmacy / Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to provide executive leadership and operational oversight for both an acute care hospital pharmacy and an affiliated retail pharmacy.

This is a high-impact interim leadership opportunity for an experienced pharmacy executive who can oversee daily operations while leading two major strategic initiatives:

Expansion of the hospital's ambulatory infusion services
Optimization and expansion of the 340B drug pricing program, including implementation of a new Third-Party Administrator (TPA) software platform

The ideal candidate will bring strong hospital pharmacy leadership experience, regulatory expertise, and demonstrated success with 340B program management and sterile compounding/infusion center expansion.

Key Responsibilities

Pharmacy Leadership & Operations

Serve as the operational and legal Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) for hospital and retail pharmacy operations.
Provide leadership and oversight for pharmacy personnel, including pharmacists and technicians.
Manage staffing, scheduling, clinical assignments, performance management, and team development.
Oversee pharmacy budgets, capital planning, drug spend, inventory management, and financial performance.
Collaborate with the Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee and other clinical and executive leaders.
Maintain compliance with applicable state pharmacy regulations, CMS requirements, DNV standards, and relevant USP standards.

340B Program & TPA Implementation

Lead the implementation and configuration of a new 340B TPA software platform.
Oversee EHR data feeds, data mapping, crosswalk validation, and system configuration.
Establish and validate split-billing parameters and NDC mapping.
Support compliant inventory replenishment and purchasing processes.
Oversee the expansion and enrollment of contract pharmacy relationships within the local service area.
Develop internal auditing procedures, continuous data validation processes, and compliance dashboards.
Maintain audit readiness and help protect against diversion and duplicate discounts.

Ambulatory Infusion Expansion

Lead pharmacy-related planning for the expansion of an ambulatory infusion center.
Partner with facilities, engineering, nursing, and compliance teams on cleanroom and compounding area design.
Ensure sterile compounding environments align with applicable USP requirements.
Design safe and efficient workflows for medication preparation, delivery, and administration.
Optimize collaboration between pharmacy and nursing teams.
Partner with billing and finance teams to support appropriate J-code alignment, prior authorization workflows, and reimbursement optimization.

Required Qualifications

Active, unencumbered Montana Pharmacist License, or verified eligibility for immediate Montana licensure through reciprocity.
Must be eligible to assume Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) responsibilities upon starting.
Minimum 5 years of hospital pharmacy leadership experience in an acute care setting, preferably at the Director or Assistant Director level.
Demonstrated experience managing a 340B program.
Experience completing at least one full-cycle 340B TPA software conversion or implementation.
Direct experience overseeing the clinical, regulatory, or physical expansion of a sterile compounding or ambulatory infusion center.
Strong knowledge of pharmacy operations, regulatory compliance, budgeting, medication safety, and leadership.
BLS/BCLS certification required.
EPIC experience preferred.

Performance Expectations

The Interim Director will provide regular leadership updates and track key performance indicators, including:

Progress toward 340B TPA implementation milestones
Infusion center expansion and regulatory readiness
Pharmacy labor productivity
Drug spend and budget variance
Compliance and audit-readiness activities

Additional Contract Information

Monday–Friday day shift schedule
40 hours per week
No holiday coverage required
Approximately 26-week assignment
Potential opportunity to extend or transition to a permanent position
Facility may cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract period due to low census or unforeseen circumstances
