Title: Staff Accountant
Location: Hybrid | Columbia Falls*
*This position primarily works from home but must reside in the Flathead Valley to be able to work in the Columbia Falls office on a regular and as-needed basis.

Position Overview: The Staff Accountant supports the Director of Finance in carrying out a variety of accounting and financial operations. This role is primarily responsible for payroll support, accounts receivable and payable, and reconciliations. By contributing to multiple areas of financial administration, the Staff Accountant plays a key role in advancing the Conservancy’s mission to preserve and protect Glacier National Park for future generations.

Essential Functions (Major Duties or Responsibilities):
ACCOUNTING AND BOOKKEEPING – 80%
Payroll

Assist the Director of Finance with payroll processing and quarterly tax filings
Calculate, audit, and record paid time off (PTO) accruals and usage

Accounts Receivable

Process and reconcile retail accounts receivable, in coordination with the Accounting Assistant
Record and reconcile eCommerce revenue in QuickBooks, including donations, gift cards, and online sales from platforms such as Shopify and Authorize.net
Post and reconcile revenue from agency partners, including Grant-Kohrs Ranch and U.S. Forest Service retail locations
Verify and audit gift card sales, redemptions, and related general ledger activity
Enter and audit deposit batches in QuickBooks to ensure accuracy

Accounts Payable

Review and process accounts payable invoices
Process weekly check runs

Reconciliations

Monitor daily cash activity, including verification of deposits, checks, and clearing transactions
Reconcile financial data between Blackbaud (Raiser’s Edge) and QuickBooks monthly
Verify investment account reconciliations
Perform monthly bank reconciliations

Compliance and Year-End Processes

Prepare and process annual 1099 forms
Assist with W-2 reconciliation and processing
Support annual audit and IRS Form 990 preparation
Ensure compliance with organizational policies, IRS regulations, and donor restrictions in all revenue and gift processing

FINANCIAL REPORTING AND SUPPORT – 20%

Assist with preparation of the annual budget
Support funding releases, including job code creation and reconciliation
Maintain fixed asset records, including monthly depreciation and year-end reporting
Participate in special accounting projects as assigned by the Director of Finance

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
Minimum of 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, including payroll processing. Degree in Accounting (or related) required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience with QuickBooks required
Experience in nonprofit accounting preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
Strong understanding of day-to-day financial operations
Experience in audit preparation and process preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work efficiently to meet deadlines
Strong computer skills and the ability to master new programs quickly
Demonstrated resourcefulness and problem-solving skills
Self-motivated and able to work independently
Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Glacier National Park Conservancy

Pay: $68,000.00 - $73,000.00 per year
