Overview

ABOUT KAUAI PHILIPPINE CULTURAL CENTER

The Kauai Philippine Cultural Center (KPCC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is “to provide, promote and enhance cultural, economic, educational training and social programs as well as cross cultural exchanges in our multi-ethnic environment.”

POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director (ED) is the chief administrative and operating officer of the KPCC. The ED provides leadership, strategic direction, and day-to-day management to ensure the organization fulfills its mission.

The ideal ED will have strong leadership, strategic thinking, financial acumen, fundraising expertise, and exceptional communication skills. The ED will be aligned with achieving KPCC’s mission and have the ability to communicate the mission to donors and customers, build rapport, manage stress in a fast-paced environment, and navigate through change. Furthermore, the executive director will grow the KPCC’s revenue and expand the number of users, develop a membership program, and maintain a self-sustaining facility to shift management away from the KPCC’s board of directors and corporate officers.

Key Responsibilities

1. Organizational Leadership & Strategy

Engage and report to the Board of Directors (Board). Implement the mission, vision, and strategic goals set by the Board
Set goals and pivot when faced with adversity. Be able to provide timely and confident decision-making, especially in times of crises.
Provide leadership in program development and community engagement
Serve as the public face, spokesperson, representative of KPCC, building partnerships, managing external communications, engaging with the public and officials at events/meetings.
Create, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with schools, cultural groups, nonprofits, and government agencies
Develop and implement long-range goals and annual work plans in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
Manage day-to-day operations, including but not limited to human resources, program delivery, administrative systems, staffing the Center.

2. Program & Event Management

Plan, oversee, and coordinate cultural, educational, and social programs including cross-cultural exchanges, Filipino Cultural Experiences, youth programs, and other relevant events benefiting the Kauai community in collaboration with volunteer committees
Develop innovative new programs and partnerships. Evaluate and report on program effectiveness.
Ensure compliance with safety and permitting requirements

3. Facility & Rental Operations

Manage the KPCC facility and grounds; coordinate maintenance and vendor services
Oversee long-term and short-term rental contracts and tenants
Market KPCC rental opportunities for main area use or vacancies in other rental spaces
Ensure KPCC generates positive cash flow and revenue growth through marketing rental opportunities, filling vacancies, and securing tenants as needed.
Ensure contracts, insurance requirements, and usage policies are followed

4. Financial Management and Compliance

Proficiency in budget development and management. Monitor revenues, expenses, and cash flow
Ensure proper financial accountability/ controls using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Ensure compliance with State of Hawaii and nonprofit regulations
Work with Treasurer and Finance Committee to prepare annual budget for approval
Increase revenue through facility use, donor cultivation and solicitation, and grant writing.
Ensure grant budgets/requirements are followed as required in agreements or contracts
Assist with financial review or audits

5. Fundraising & Development

Work in collaboration with Fundraising Committee, Board of Directors, and other volunteers to create and sustain a robust fund development program and meet or exceed fundraising goals
Lead fundraising efforts and carry out fund development projects and tasks as required
Build relationships with donors and sponsors through direct outreach, stewardship, cultivation, and engagement efforts using a combination of in-person, email, website, social media methods.
Lead and support grant writing and reporting
Research and solicit funders – individual, government, foundation, and corporate – in order to generate required contributed revenue to sustain the organization
Manage and oversee donor acknowledgments ensuring compliance with IRS regulations as per section 501(c)(3) of the Federal Tax Code

6. Board Relations & Governance

Support the Board as its primary liaison, providing regular updates on organizational health and mission impact. in governance duties
Prepare board meeting reports
Implement and maintain board-approved policies
Support the Board in governance duties, working in conjunction with the Executive Committee, Governance Committee, or other committees as formed
Assist with board member recruitment in collaboration with the Nominating Committee

7. Staff & Volunteer Relations and Management

Create, maintain, and engage strong base of volunteers
Recruit, onboard, and supervise staff and volunteers; foster a positive work environment
Ensure labor law compliance and that safety regulations/protocols are met at all times

Requirements

United States work authorization
Strong leadership and communication skills
Experience in nonprofit or community organizations
Knowledge of Filipino culture or willingness to learn
Financial and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field
Fundraising and grant experience
Facility management experience
Familiarity with Hawai‘i nonprofit laws

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Air-conditioned office and rental facility
Public appearances for individual meetings or community-based work or events
Evening and weekend hours required

COMPENSATION

Salary and benefits commensurate with experience and budget capacity.
