Tellus Aurum is seeking a Hydrological/Hydraulic Modeling Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX!
Tellus Aurum is an innovative mining company developing new ways to extract resources in an ecologically sensitive manner. We are looking for a problem solver and team player who can help design the water management systems for the company with operations in several states across the USA.
Primary Function
The H&H Modeling Engineer will support hydraulic modeling, and system evaluation efforts for pilot demonstration projects which are currently being designed. This position will be responsible for developing, calibrating, and maintaining hydraulic models; evaluating system performance; performing engineering analyses; and preparing technical documentation to support mine planning, capital improvement programming, operational optimization, and general trouble shooting.
The ideal candidate will possess experience with hydraulic modeling software, model calibration, GIS integration, and system performance evaluations.
Primary Duties
- Develop, update, calibrate, and maintain water-based hydraulic models for flow through porous media and pipes.
- Perform system capacity evaluations, operational analyses, and infrastructure assessments.
- Analyze water discharge rates into channels and watercourses.
- Assess groundwater monitoring programs linked to permitting.
- Conduct model calibration using field data, flow monitoring information, and system operational records.
- Prepare technical notes, engineering reports, planning studies, and presentation materials.
- Participate in regulatory and engineering meetings and coordinate with project managers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Support field data collection efforts on site when required.
- Assist with project scheduling, task management, and project delivery efforts.
Technical Expertise
- Experience developing and calibrating hydraulic models for water systems in pipes and/or porous media.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic principles associated with water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Familiarity with flow monitoring, groundwater monitoring systems.
- Experience evaluating pumps, lift stations, storage facilities, pipelines, valves, and other utility infrastructure within hydraulic models.
- Working knowledge of GIS platforms and integration of GIS data with hydraulic modeling software.
- Ability to interpret model results and communicate findings effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited university.
- Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in hydraulic modeling, hydrology, hydrogeology, and/or water/wastewater engineering.
- Experience in utilizing python preferred
- Ability to utilize LLMs, prompt engineer, and use agentic coding models appropriately for engineering applications preferred
- Experience with ArcGIS Pro or equivalent GIS platforms preferred.
- Strong technical report writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
