Full Job Description

HR Assistant / Driver Recruiter

We are looking for an organized, motivated, and reliable HR Assistant / Driver Recruiter to join our trucking company. This position will focus primarily on CDL driver and owner-operator recruitment, onboarding, and truck setup.

Responsibilities

Driver Recruitment

Post CDL driver and owner-operator job openings on Indeed, Facebook, Craigslist, and other recruiting platforms.
Respond to driver calls, messages, and applications promptly.
Recruit company drivers and owner-operators.
Explain pay, routes, home time, equipment, company requirements, and deductions.
Follow up with potential drivers and maintain an organized recruiting pipeline.
Re-contact previous applicants when new positions become available.
Develop new recruiting sources and driver referral opportunities.

Driver Screening

Conduct initial phone interviews with applicants.
Verify CDL type and driving experience.
Review basic accident, violation, suspension, and employment history.
Confirm OTR and equipment experience.
Determine availability and potential start date.
For owner-operators, collect truck information, VIN, registration, and required documents.
Forward qualified applicants to HR/Safety for final approval.

Driver Onboarding

Manage the onboarding process for approved drivers and owner-operators.
Collect CDL, medical card, employment documents, truck documents, and other required paperwork.
Follow up on missing documents.
Coordinate drug testing, orientation, and start dates.
Prepare onboarding paperwork and driver agreements.
Maintain organized driver files and records.
Coordinate with Safety and Operations before the driver is activated.
Make sure drivers receive company procedures, important contacts, and necessary information before starting.

Truck Decals & Setup

Arrange and coordinate installation of company decals on newly leased-on trucks.
Make sure DOT/MC numbers, company name, unit numbers, and other required markings are properly installed.
Take and maintain photos of trucks after decals are installed.
Coordinate decal replacement or removal when necessary.
Confirm the truck and driver are completely ready before releasing them to dispatch.

Recruiting & HR Administration

Maintain accurate records of applicants, approved drivers, and active drivers.
Track recruiting sources and results.
Maintain driver onboarding checklists.
Communicate regularly with drivers, Safety, HR, and Operations.
Assist with general HR administrative responsibilities as needed.
Prepare weekly recruiting and onboarding updates for management.

Qualifications

Strong communication and organizational skills.
Comfortable speaking with drivers throughout the day.
Good follow-up and time-management skills.
Basic computer and data-entry skills.
Ability to manage multiple applicants and onboarding processes at the same time.
Trucking industry or CDL driver recruiting experience is preferred.
Must be dependable, professional, and detail-oriented.

Key Goal: Recruit qualified drivers and owner-operators and ensure each new driver completes the onboarding process and is fully ready to begin working.
