Title: Practical Nursing Clinical Instructor
Position Description:
The clinical instructor in the Practical Nursing Program is a part time position contracted each semester as needed. Clinical instructors are assigned by course in the clinical laboratory or in a health care facility providing clinical instruction, supervision and evaluation of assigned students. Reports to the Director of Practical Nursing and Dean of Allied Health.
Qualifications:
Unencumbered licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Arkansas or Compact State of residence.
Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred
Minimum of two years of nursing experience.
Job Responsibilities:
Duties of the Practical Nursing Clinical Instructor include but are not limited to:
1. Is guided by the college and nursing department mission statement in striving to implement the Practical Nursing Department’s philosophy of nursing education.
2. Follows established academic policies and procedures of the College that facilitate instruction, administration and student well-being.
3. Adheres to assigned clinical agency’s policies and procedures.
4. Provides clinical instruction that support the Student Learning Outcomes and/or Clinical Learning Objectives identified for course clinical assignment.
5. Demonstrates appropriate preparation for clinical instruction, supervision and student
evaluation.
6. Adheres to the Clinical Faculty Guidelines for assigned care.
7. Develops and maintains an environment conducive to effective learning.
8. Utilizes effective teaching methodologies in clinical setting as appropriate and available to enhance student learning.
9. Facilitate pre and post conference for assigned clinical group as appropriate for clinical course.
10. Evaluates student progress in the clinical lab and clinical facilities and provides written evaluations as requested by the supervisor in a timely manner.
11. Participates in ANC instructional and nursing program assessment activities reporting and utilizing assessment results to improve Student and Program Learning Outcomes.
12. Demonstrates effective interpersonal relations and communication skills with students, staff, faculty, and all college employees.
13. Attends and participates in reconvening activities, divisional and departmental faculty meetings as requested.
14. Attends clinical orientation and any facility required in service/meetings as established by assigned clinical site.
15. Maintains an annual evaluation portfolio of teaching and professional activities that demonstrates professional growth.
16. Cooperates with other members of the nursing faculty and staff in planning clinical instructional opportunities that meet the course goals and objectives.
17. Responsible for maintaining updated, unencumbered license to practice in Arkansas or Compact State of residence.
18. Maintains education and clinical competencies in areas of instructional responsibilities.
