Full Job Description

Join Owens Industries as a skilled CMM Programmer/Quality Inspector, where you will perform high-precision machining for critical defense and aerospace components. This role is responsible for inspection execution, CMM operation and programming, blueprint interpretation, and ensuring compliance with customer, AS9100, and internal quality requirements.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience working within an aerospace CNC machining environment, advanced blueprint reading skills, and hands-on experience operating and programming CMMs—preferably using Zeiss Calypso software.

Inspection & Quality Assurance

Perform in-process, first article, and final inspections on high-precision aerospace and defense components.
Verify dimensional accuracy and conformance to customer drawings, specifications, and internal procedures.
Support nonconformance investigations and corrective action activities when required.
Maintain inspection records and quality documentation in accordance with AS9100 and customer requirements.

CMM Operation & Programming

Operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) for complex dimensional inspections.
Develop, edit, and optimize CMM programs for production and first article inspections.
Interpret GD&T requirements and ensure inspection methods accurately validate part compliance.
Troubleshoot inspection setups, fixturing, and measurement-related issues.
Preferred experience with Zeiss CMMs and Calypso programming software.

Blueprint Reading & Technical Interpretation

Read and interpret complex aerospace engineering drawings and specifications.
Demonstrate strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and critical feature inspection.
Work closely with engineering, machinists, and programmers to resolve dimensional or process concerns.
Assist in developing inspection methods and best practices for complex machined components.

Quality System Support

Support compliance with AS9100, ISO, and customer-specific quality requirements.
Assist with internal audits, documentation reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Participate in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action activities.
Help maintain a strong culture of quality and accountability throughout the organization.

Qualifications Required

3–5+ years of experience in a quality role within aerospace and defense manufacturing.
Hands-on experience operating CMM equipment in a precision machining environment.
Experience programming CMMs preferred.
Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
Experience inspecting high-tolerance CNC machined components.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.

Preferred Experience

Experience with Zeiss CMMs and Calypso software.
Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO quality systems.
Experience with first article inspections and aerospace documentation requirements.
Understanding of machining processes related to CNC turning and 5-axis milling operations.
