CPC is seeking an experienced Director of Safety & Risk Management to lead and strengthen our company-wide safety and risk management programs across our agribusiness operations.
This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for protecting our employees, reducing workplace risk, and building a consistent culture of safety across multiple locations and job sites. The Director will work closely with operational leaders, Human Resources, Regulatory & Quality Assurance, and senior leadership to develop practical safety solutions that support both our employees and our business.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on safety leader who is comfortable spending time in the field, building relationships with employees and managers, and translating regulatory requirements into practical, sustainable safety practices.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Accident Prevention
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of company-wide employee safety programs.
- Establish consistent safety standards and practices across facilities, operations, and job sites.
- Partner with managers and employees to identify hazards and proactively reduce workplace injuries and incidents.
- Conduct and oversee safety audits, facility inspections, job hazard assessments, and risk assessments.
- Lead investigations of workplace accidents, injuries, near misses, and other safety incidents.
- Ensure appropriate root cause analysis and corrective actions are completed and communicated.
- Develop and monitor safety metrics, trends, and key performance indicators and provide regular reporting to leadership.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
OSHA & Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain company compliance with applicable OSHA requirements and other federal, state, and local workplace safety regulations.
- Oversee OSHA recordkeeping, including injury and illness logs, required reporting, and related documentation.
- Serve as a primary company resource for OSHA inspections, inquiries, and safety-related regulatory matters.
- Monitor regulatory developments and recommend changes to policies, procedures, and training as needed.
- Maintain appropriate safety documentation and ensure company locations are prepared for regulatory inspections.
Workers’ Compensation & Return-to-Work
- Own and administer the company’s workers’ compensation program.
- Coordinate workplace injury reporting and claims management with employees, managers, Human Resources, insurance carriers, medical providers, and other partners.
- Monitor open claims, claim trends, costs, and opportunities to reduce claim frequency and severity.
- Lead the company’s return-to-work program, including transitional and modified-duty opportunities for injured employees.
- Partner with operational leadership regarding work restrictions, accommodations, and return-to-work planning.
- Develop strategies to improve workers’ compensation outcomes while supporting employees through the recovery and return-to-work process.
Risk Management & Commercial Insurance
- Support the administration and ongoing management of the company’s commercial insurance programs.
- Partner with insurance brokers, carriers, and loss-control representatives on risk assessments, claims, renewals, and loss-prevention initiatives.
- Analyze claims and loss trends and recommend strategies to reduce organizational risk and insurance exposure.
- Coordinate information and documentation needed for insurance renewals, audits, and risk assessments.
Fleet & Driver Safety
- Provide leadership and oversight of fleet and driver safety programs.
- Support compliance with applicable DOT and FMCSA safety requirements.
- Oversee or support Driver Qualification File compliance and related documentation, as assigned.
- Partner with operational leaders to identify and reduce motor vehicle and fleet-related risks.
- Support driver safety training and accident-prevention initiatives.
Training & Employee Engagement
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver effective safety training for employees, supervisors, and managers.
- Ensure new employees receive appropriate safety orientation and required training.
- Develop safety communications and awareness initiatives that keep safety visible throughout the organization.
- Coach managers and supervisors on their responsibilities for maintaining a safe workplace.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Risk Management, Agriculture, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- Progressive experience leading workplace safety, risk management, or related programs, preferably within agriculture, agribusiness, manufacturing, distribution, transportation, or another multi-location operational environment.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety requirements.
- Experience with workers’ compensation claims management and return-to-work programs.
- Experience with commercial insurance, loss control, and/or organizational risk management preferred.
- Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA requirements and fleet safety programs is preferred.
- Strong investigation, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to influence and coach operational leaders while maintaining strong working relationships.
- Ability and willingness to regularly travel to company facilities and job sites.
