GENERAL MANAGERTyler Indoor Pickleball (TIP) — Tyler, Texas
Full-Time | Salaried | $50,000–$60,000 per year
Run the Business. Lead the Team. Build the Operation.
Tyler Indoor Pickleball (TIP) is looking for a hands-on General Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of our indoor sports and social facility.
We are looking for a leader and operator — someone who wants the opportunity to run a real business, lead people, solve problems, implement systems and be accountable for results.
If you are an assistant manager, department manager, operations manager or other emerging leader who knows you are capable of more, this may be the opportunity to prove it.
SCHEDULE & FIRST 90 DAYS
TIP operates seven days a week, including evenings and weekends.
This is a full-time salaried management position with a normal expectation of approximately 45–50 hours per week once the operation is fully established and running properly.
Candidates should understand that the first several months will likely require a greater commitment.
TIP has developed an extensive operating Playbook containing our standards, procedures, responsibilities, forms and systems. One of the General Manager's first major responsibilities will be to help fully implement that Playbook throughout the organization.
That means the initial period will involve:
- Learning every part of the operation
- Implementing and refining operating procedures
- Establishing staff responsibilities and accountability
- Training employees
- Correcting existing operational issues
- Building dependable scheduling and management coverage
- Establishing routines, checklists and reporting
- Making sure TIP's standards become the way we actually operate every day
During this implementation period, there will be weeks when more than 45–50 hours are necessary, including some evenings and weekends.
We want candidates to understand that before accepting the position.
However, the goal is not to create a 60-hour-a-week job forever.
Quite the opposite.
A successful General Manager will build systems, develop employees and establish accountability so that the operation becomes easier to manage, more predictable and less dependent on any one individual.
Once those systems are functioning properly, the General Manager should generally maintain an established schedule while adjusting it when major events, staffing situations or operational needs require their presence.
Good management is not measured by how many hours the manager spends in the building. It is measured by how well the business operates when the manager isn't there.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
The General Manager is responsible for the successful day-to-day operation of TIP, including:
- Leading, scheduling, training and holding staff accountable
- Fully implementing the TIP Playbook and operating systems
- Creating an exceptional member and guest experience
- Maintaining a clean, safe and well-operated facility
- Overseeing open play, leagues, tournaments, lessons, clinics and events
- Coordinating staff, coaches and facility schedules
- Resolving member and operational problems
- Managing labor and controlling operating expenses
- Monitoring inventory, café operations and facility needs
- Helping grow memberships, programming and event revenue
- Implementing and improving procedures and systems
- Developing employees and building a strong team and culture
- Identifying problems and getting them handled before they become ownership's problems
The General Manager will have meaningful day-to-day responsibility and the authority necessary to carry it out while working directly with ownership.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Dependable. If you say you will do something, people can count on it.
Hands-On. You don't manage exclusively from an office.
Accountable. You take responsibility for results.
Organized. You can manage people, schedules, programs and competing priorities.
Calm Under Pressure. Problems happen. Your job is to solve them without creating unnecessary drama.
Friendly but Firm. You enjoy people but are comfortable setting expectations and holding employees accountable.
Service-Oriented. You genuinely care about members and guests.
Business-Minded. You understand that excellent service and financial performance go together.
Low-Ego. At TIP, contribution matters more than titles.
A Builder. You enjoy taking something that isn't completely organized yet and making it work.
A Problem Solver. Your instinct isn't, “That's not my job.”
It's:
“Let's get it handled.”
EXPERIENCE
Pickleball experience is NOT required.
We are much more interested in your ability to lead people and run an operation.
Strong candidates may come from hospitality, restaurants, fitness clubs, sports and recreation facilities, entertainment venues, hotels, retail, family entertainment centers or other customer-focused businesses.
Previous management or supervisory experience is expected.
We are particularly interested in up-and-coming leaders who are ready for greater responsibility and the opportunity to run an entire operation.
We can teach you our systems and the pickleball business.
Dependability, judgment, leadership, work ethic and accountability are much harder to teach.
HOW WE MEASURE SUCCESS
Success isn't measured by how busy you look. It is measured by results.
