Full Job Description

It is Shelter from the Storm's mission to provide services to empower survivors in taking a leadership role in their own life. While we endeavor to transform the communities understanding and response to interpersonal violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking. We do this work through education, support groups, community collaboration, prevention work, advocacy, awareness outreach and emergency supportive services.

Position: Executive Director

Position Status: 1.0 FTE

Salary: $50,000 yearly to $60,000 Depending On Experience & Qualifications

Reports to: Board of Directors

Summary

The objective of the Executive Director (ED) is to support and further the mission and core values of Shelter From the Storm (SFS) by overseeing staff and programs to ensure appropriate service delivery. The Executive Director of Shelter From the Storm is the chief operations executive and serves as advisor to the Board of Directors and as liaison between Shelter staff and the Board. The ED is responsible for procuring funding for the organization; financial and program management and planning; establishing and fostering relations between social services, justice and law enforcement agencies; and garnering public support for the mission of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Serving as Shelter from the Storm’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public.

· Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations throughout the state and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance Shelter from the Storm’s Mission.

· Create and adjust policies and protocols as they relate to client contact and services, and as needed to meet staff, client and program needs - ensuring client confidentiality and appropriate staff/client interaction.

· Plan for and procure funding needed to support the overall functions of the organization.

· Prepare grant applications and maintain appropriate files and documentation in compliance with funding sources.

· Works with SFS Board of Directors (BOD) in order to fulfill the organization mission, through regular attendance of monthly BOD meetings.

· Maintain appropriate files and documentation required for the oversight of the BOD.

· Keep the BOD informed and involved with all grant writing, grant management, grant reporting and other grant related information relevant to the organization.

· Account to the Board of Directors for all operations relative to the organization through excellent communication with the BOD through various means - monthly director/staff reports, email, phone and in person.

· Develop the annual budget, with support from the fiscal manager and BOD budget committee. Present the budget to the BOD for approval. This includes predicting future budgetary needs of SFS, calculating expenditures and revenues.

· Work closely with the Programs Director to provide program leadership and ensure adherence to SFS program goals, objectives and outcomes. Evaluation of programs through input from clients, staff, the BOD, and the community.

· Act as direct supervision to the Programs Director and assist that position with all Human Resource functions for the organization to include creating job descriptions that fit within the funding agencies’ guidelines and program needs, interview, hire, and with the assist with onboarding and training new staff.

· Ensure appropriate training for staff. Identify and arrange for attendance at local, state and national level trainings, as funding sources allow.

· Resolve staff conflicts and terminate staff employment when necessary.

· Strategic planning and implementation.

· Review and approve contracts for programs and services.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty and responsibility listed above in this job description.

Strong fiscal background, knowledge of non-profit bookkeeping preferred.
Knowledge of family violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
Ability to work independently, self-motivated, takes initiative and is self-directed to promote operation and organizational needs.
Leadership skills.
Strong time management, organizational and computer skills.
Strong understanding of how to effectively advocate for clients, staff and the organization.
Honesty, integrity, cultural responsiveness; recognition of and respect for diversity.
Creative and innovative thinking.
Ability to lead volunteers and SFS staff, and to develop/coordinate/provide training,
Ability to work as an individual and as part of a team,
Handle multiple priorities and remain calm in stressful situations,
Maintain confidentiality and dedication to continual improvement are essential to this position,
Able to work effectively in a nonprofit environment,
Able to work in a busy office with frequent interruptions.
Valid driver’s license, insurance and access to regular transportation required.
Criminal background check required; comply with agency drug and alcohol policies.
Must comply with all SFS policies and safety regulations.
Agree, in writing, to maintain confidentiality of clients, staff, and SFS agency always.
This position requires occasional travel to state and federal meetings, trainings, and conferences, as well as the ability to work a flex schedule to accommodate fluctuating workloads, events and client crises.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in social work or related field. Or minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in social service program or agency.
Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.
