About two years ago, I wrote an Indeed posting completely from the heart and ended up hiring one of the best employees I could have asked for. She is still with us today, so I’m hoping lightning strikes twice.
My name is Celine, and I own A Girl & Her Golden, a growing dog-walking and pet-sitting company serving South Orange County. What started as just me and my Golden Retriever has grown into a team of dog walkers, pet sitters, and administrative support—and we are looking for another dependable person to join us.
This position begins as a regular dog walker and pet sitter. Our immediate priority is finding someone reliable, communicative, detail-oriented, and available during our busiest weekday hours.
For someone who performs strongly and is interested in growing with the company, there may also be future opportunities in employee training and daily operations. Leadership is available as a growth path, but it is not something you are expected to take on immediately.
What You’ll Do
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Completing private dog walks and pet-care visits
- Following detailed care and home-access instructions
- Providing fresh water, food, medication, or other care as scheduled
- Writing thoughtful visit reports and taking clear photos
- Communicating promptly with management when questions or concerns arise
- Keeping pets safe and clients’ homes secure
- Driving between appointments throughout South Orange County
- Occasionally transporting dogs in your personal vehicle when required for field trips, heat-safe outings, or other scheduled services
- Providing pet sitting, weekend, evening, or holiday care based on your stated availability
This is independent work, but you will still be part of a team. You will have support when you need it, and you will be expected to communicate rather than guess when something affects a pet’s safety, a client’s home, or your ability to complete an appointment.
Schedule and Availability
Most of our recurring dog walks take place Monday through Friday between approximately 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with our greatest need generally falling during late-morning and midday hours.
This is a part-time position, and weekly hours may vary based on client demand and your availability. Because clients depend on us for consistent care, applicants with dependable, recurring weekday availability will be prioritized.
Additional opportunities may be available during:
- Early mornings
- Evenings
- Weekends
- Major holidays
- Pet-sitting periods
Please be honest and specific about your availability during the application process. We build schedules around the availability employees provide, so reliability and advance communication are extremely important.
Transportation Requirements
You must have:
- A valid driver’s license
- A reliable and insured vehicle
- Authorization to use that vehicle for work
- A smartphone with dependable service
- Willingness to drive between clients throughout our service area
- Willingness to transport dogs in your vehicle when required for assigned services
Mileage driven between client appointments is reimbursed.
Because transportation is essential to this position, you should also have a realistic plan for communicating and responding if your primary vehicle unexpectedly becomes unavailable.
The Person We’re Looking For
Loving dogs is important, but it is not enough by itself.
The strongest members of our team are people who:
- Show up when they say they will
- Communicate proactively
- Read and follow detailed instructions
- Notice when something is wrong
- Ask for help before a small issue becomes a larger one
- Stay calm when plans change
- Treat clients’ homes with care and respect
- Take ownership of mistakes
- Work well independently without becoming disconnected from the team
- Care about doing the job correctly even when no one is watching
Professional pet-care experience is helpful, but it is not required. We can teach our systems and standards. We cannot teach someone to care about being dependable.
You should be comfortable handling dogs of different sizes, breeds, ages, energy levels, and temperaments. You should also be prepared to work outdoors, walk for extended periods, and complete appointments during warm weather, light rain, and other normal seasonal conditions while following company safety policies.
Leadership Growth Opportunity
This role is first and foremost a dog-walking and pet-care position.
However, as AG&HG grows, we are building a career path for employees who demonstrate strong performance and genuinely want additional responsibility.
That path may eventually include:
Team Trainer
- Helping train and support new employees
- Demonstrating AG&HG procedures in the field
- Giving clear, constructive feedback
- Helping new team members build confidence and consistency
Daily Manager
- Monitoring the day’s appointments and team progress
- Supporting employees who encounter issues in the field
- Answering basic team and client questions
- Reviewing reports for quality and accuracy
- Assisting with same-day changes and coverage
- Stepping into the field when an employee calls out or extra coverage is needed
- Helping keep normal daily problems from automatically reaching the owner
Leadership roles are not guaranteed based solely on time with the company. They are earned through demonstrated reliability, judgment, communication, knowledge of our standards, and the ability to help others succeed.
Additional responsibilities come with additional training and compensation.
You do not need to know today whether leadership is right for you. We simply want applicants to know that meaningful growth is available for the right person.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting pay: $17.00 per hour (with opportunities to grow up to $23.00/hr)
- Mileage reimbursement between appointments
- Paid sick time in accordance with company policy
- W-2 employment
- Training provided

- Additional compensation as responsibilities increase
- Potential growth into Team Trainer and Daily Manager roles
- A supportive team and direct access to management when help is genuinely needed
A candidate bringing substantial relevant pet-care or leadership experience may be considered for a higher starting rate.
