Head Chef – The Bekery

Location: Lake Charles, Louisiana
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Based on experience

The Bekery is looking for an experienced and motivated Head Chef to lead our kitchen team. We are a busy European-inspired bakery and café focused on beautiful food, warm hospitality, and making every guest leave happy.

Our ideal candidate is a strong leader who can maintain consistency, organization, and quality in a fast-paced kitchen. This position oversees our daily café and brunch menu while also helping develop seasonal dishes and new menu ideas.

Responsibilities

Lead, train, and support the kitchen team
Oversee daily food preparation and service
Maintain consistent quality, presentation, and portion sizes
Create and develop seasonal menu items and specials
Manage food costs, ordering, inventory, and waste
Build efficient prep lists and kitchen systems
Maintain proper food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards
Help manage scheduling and labor needs
Work closely with ownership, management, and the bakery team
Keep the kitchen calm, organized, and productive during busy services
Maintain and uphold The Bekery’s standards and values

Qualifications

Previous experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, Kitchen Manager, or similar leadership role
Strong leadership and communication skills
Experience with food costing, inventory, ordering, and kitchen operations
Ability to train and develop a team
Creative, organized, dependable, and detail-oriented
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
Available to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Culinary degree is a plus but not required
ServSafe certification is preferred
