Nursing Assistant Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Nursing Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide essential support to patients in various settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and home care environments. This role involves assisting with daily living activities, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring the comfort and safety of patients. The Nursing Assistant will work closely with nursing staff to deliver high-quality patient care while adhering to established protocols and standards.

Responsibilities

Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
Provide support in mobility assistance using equipment such as Hoyer lifts.
Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients.
Document patient care activities accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement patient care plans.
Assist with medication administration under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
Support patients with specialized needs including Alzheimer’s care, dementia care, and hospice care.
Engage in effective communication with patients and their families regarding care plans and progress.
Uphold patient confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

Previous experience as a Nursing Assistant or in a related healthcare role is preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic life support techniques.
Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or Cerner is advantageous.
Experience in critical care settings (ICU or PICU), long-term care, or assisted living facilities is highly desirable.
Ability to work effectively with individuals who have developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs.
Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with patients and their families.
Basic understanding of infection control practices and aseptic techniques.
Certification in phlebotomy or experience with catheter care is a plus.
Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing healthcare environments.
