The ICU is an 18-bed unit which provides care to critically ill adult and geriatric patients. As the only intensive care unit in WGSH, we provide care to a multitude of medical, surgical, and clinically complex patient populations. We specialize in recovery of open-heart surgical patients, those who require ventilator or other acute respiratory support, pressors and inotrope therapy, tPA administration for stroke or pulmonary emboli, peritoneal or extended dialysis therapy, and hemodynamic monitoring with capabilities for IABP, Impella and cannulation for ECMO. Patient ratios are acuity-based ranging from 1-3 patients. The unit has 24-hour support of CRNPs who are supervised by a Critical Care Service in the unit to promote ongoing assessment and care.

WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital serves as the cornerstone of care for a total population of nearly 142,000 residents living in the rural and urban mix of Lebanon County. A full-service, acute-care hospital, with a 163 licensed bed capacity, admitting approximately 7,000 patients annually. We offer open heart procedures, comprehensive cardiac care, total joint replacements, private labor and delivery birthing suites, robotic surgery, and emergency care.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Instructs, counsels, and monitors the work of nursing orientees in the aspects of clinical nursing relative to assigned area; educates nursing orientees concerning nursing policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with Clinical Educator and orientee’s Nurse Manager in planning and structuring orientation program to meet the individual orientee's needs; plans daily assignments for orientees.
- Performs on-going assessment and regular formal evaluations of nursing staff during orientation period; documents all observations and submits recommendations to Nurse Manager (i.e., duration of individual orientation).
- Assists Clinical Educator in planning, presenting, evaluating, and revising the staff development activities and orientation clinical plan.
- Serves as a role model and resource person for all nursing staff.
- Performs duties and responsibilities of charge nurse/team leader or clinical nurse as needed or directed.
- Variation of duties may result based on the assigned customer care unit(s). This may include differences in the specific clinical skills required of the RN. Unit based skill lists outline expectations beyond the house wide RN requirements. SYS-NURS-L Nursing Education Requirements Policy outlines current certification(s) required for specific areas of nursing practice and is considered to be part of the job description.
- In addition to requirements specified in the license and certification section below, current BLS certification for all areas of nursing practice is required.Current certification may be required for the following areas of nursing practice:Emergency Care Center – ACLS, PALSIntensive Care Center & MSCC Lead – ACLS, PALSL&D – ACLS, NRP, - Experienced L&D nurses will obtain within 6 months and new L&D nurses will obtain at 1 year of experienceNICU – NRPPEDS – PALSPCC/PACU/ENDO – ACLS, PALSProcedural – ACLS

Qualifications
Minimum Education:
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN) or currently enrolled in BSN program with anticipated graduation date within 12 months of starting in role. Required
- Masters Degree in Nursing (MSN) Preferred
Work Experience:
- 5 years Relevant experience. Required
Licenses:
- Licensed Registered Nurse Upon Hire Required or
- Registered Nurse Multi State License Upon Hire Required and
- Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
Courses and Training:
- Specialty Nursing Certification or Preceptor Certification. Upon Hire Preferred
