SPECIAL SALARY INFORMATION:
Workforce Shortage Recruitment - New appointments and current incumbents shall be compensated at Step 5 of the applicable salary range. This is in effect until June 30, 2027, or until it is driven that a shortage no longer exists, whichever is sooner.
Critical Shortage Recruitment Range - 20% Night Shift
In addition, pursuant to County Code Section 6.10.050 and 6.10.060, a Critical Shortage Range of 20% has been approved for full-time Clinical Laboratory Scientist II assigned to the night shift.
Correctional Health Services – 20% Recruitment and Retention Bonus
Los Angeles County currently offers a 20% bonus for full-time Clinical Laboratory Scientist II roles. These positions are with Correctional Health Services and require on-site work at designated facilities. The bonus strives to meet critical healthcare needs for the uniquely underserved jail population.

MISSION:

Investigates problems of laboratory equipment malfunction or difficulties with reagents, media, or other materials or items of supply which cause test results to be unreliable or otherwise questionable and takes or recommends appropriate action for their resolution.
Assists with supervision in the search of technical publications and other literature in the field to identify and recommend for management's consideration new equipment, methods, materials.
Verifies that journey-level laboratory scientists have accurately calibrated test instruments, carried out prescribed quality control procedures, performed first-line maintenance on equipment, and accurately completed vital documentation.

One year of experience as a clinical laboratory scientist in an approved laboratory.
LICENSE:
Clinical Laboratory Scientist's license -OR-Limited Clinical Laboratory Scientist Licenses issued by the State of California Department of Public Health in one of the following specialties when assigned to a specialized area such as chemistry, microbiology, hematology, toxicology, and immunohematology.
Clinical Chemist Scientist License
A clinical chemist scientist is authorized to perform clinical laboratory tests or examinations classified as high complexity under CLIA in the specialty or subspecialties of chemistry, including routine chemistry, clinical microscopy, endocrinology and toxicology; immunology, including diagnostic immunology and syphilis serology; and molecular biology.
Clinical Microbiologist Scientist License
A clinical microbiologist scientist is authorized to perform clinical laboratory tests or examinations classified as high complexity under CLIA in the specialty or subspecialties of microbiology including bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and virology; immunology, including diagnostic immunology and syphilis serology; and molecular biology.
Clinical Immunohematologist Scientist License
A clinical immunohematologist scientist is authorized to perform clinical laboratory tests or examinations classified as high complexity under CLIA limited to the specialty of immunohematology including ABO/Rh Type or Group, unexpected antibody detection, compatibility testing and antibody identification.
Clinical Toxicologist Scientist License
A clinical toxicologist scientist is authorized to perform clinical laboratory tests or examinations classified as high complexity under CLIA limited to the subspecialty of toxicology.
Clinical Hematologist Scientist License
A clinical hematologist scientist is authorized to perform clinical laboratory tests or examinations classified as high complexity under CLIA limited to the specialty of hematology including routine hematology and coagulation.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Additional credit will be given to applicants who possess the following desirable qualifications:

Physical Class 2 – Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved
Special Requirement Information:
- An approved laboratory is defined as a clinical laboratory that has a federal issued Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment Laboratory Certificate of Accreditation that authorizes the laboratory to accept human specimens for the purpose of performing laboratory examinations, and is accredited by the College of American Pathologist (CAP) or The Joint Commission.
To receive credit for the required license, you must include a legible copy at the time of filing or within seven (7) calendar days from the date of filing your application. Documentation must be submitted to
[email protected] and must include your name, the exam title, and the exam number. Applicants who currently practice and/or reside outside the State of California must possess a valid and unrestricted California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
At the time of appointment, the successful candidate must have a license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist OR Limited Clinical Laboratory Scientist Licenses issued by the State of California Department of Health Services.
No withhold will be allowed. Required experience and licensing must be fully met at the time of filing, and clearly indicated on the application.Special Information:

This examination will consist of an evaluation of your training, experience, and desirable qualifications based upon application information weighted at 100%.
Applicants need to achieve a passing score of 70% or higher to be added to the Eligible Register.

Vacancy Information
The resulting eligible register built from this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Department of Health Services as they occur.
Eligibility Information:
Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing score on the examination will be added to the eligible register and will appear in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months following the date of eligibility.
No person may compete for this examination more than once every six (6) months.
