Job Overview

We are seeking a dependable, organized, and patient-focused Medical Assistant to join our growing practice in a full-time float position. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, works well in a fast-paced environment, and is eager to learn all aspects of patient care. As our practice continues to grow, this position has the potential to transition into a dedicated role within one department based on the needs of the practice and the employee's interests and strengths.

Position Summary

As a Full-Time Float Medical Assistant, you will support both our clinical and front office teams. Responsibilities include surgery scheduling, assisting with front desk operations, answering phones, checking patients in and out, coordinating urine drug screens, and learning clinical back-office duties while working alongside our providers. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys cross-training and values being a versatile member of the team.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures, including obtaining authorizations and communicating with patients and surgery centers.
Coordinate and process urine drug screens according to practice protocols.
Answer incoming phone calls professionally and assist patients with scheduling and general inquiries.
Greet and check patients in and out while providing exceptional customer service.
Assist with front office administrative duties as needed.
Float to the clinical area to support providers with patient care.
Prepare exam rooms and assist with patient flow.
Obtain vital signs, update medical histories, and document patient information.
Assist providers with examinations and in-office procedures.
Maintain accurate electronic medical records.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the practice.

Requirements

Proven experience as a Medical Assistant with proficiency in dermatology, urgent care, hospital medicine, or outpatient settings.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and ICD coding standards.
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and electronic health records management practices.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications such as phlebotomy or medication administration are advantageous.
Prior hospital or Level I/II trauma center experience preferred; inpatient or PICU experience is a plus.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Excellent communication skills focused on patient care and team collaboration.

Qualifications

Current Medical Assistant certification or completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
Previous experience in a medical office preferred.
Surgery scheduling experience is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Strong computer and electronic medical record (EMR) skills.
Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
Positive attitude, professionalism, and a strong commitment to outstanding patient care.
Team player with a willingness to learn both front and back office responsibilities.
