Job Summary

Under new ownership, rooted in Mid-Michigan soil, Sidebar is churning into the Lansing areas most sought dinning experience. Built on relationships with our locals and local farmers we strive to raise the bar in the Capital City. The kitchen is run by Chef Jason Bamford, who's career was forged in the kitchens of Michelin and James Beard award wining restaurants across the country followed by executive chef roles at some of the counties most prestigious hotels. Now we are bringing that standard home, to build something great for a community that has been patiently waiting. Not every piece fits in every puzzle so we are hiring with intent. Looking for those who have the fire, those with a desire to work in a true team environment where we all have each others back. In this energetic role, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes with precision and creativity. Your expertise will contribute to delivering memorable dining experiences, ensuring every plate meets our high standards for quality, safety, and presentation. Responsibilities

Prepare ingredients and cook menu items according to established recipes and standards, ensuring consistency and quality.
Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, grills, slicers, mixers, and other culinary tools.
Follow food safety protocols diligently, including proper food handling, sanitation, and cleaning procedures to maintain a safe kitchen environment.
Assist with menu planning by suggesting creative ideas and ensuring ingredient availability for daily specials or catering needs.
Collaborate closely with kitchen staff to coordinate meal preparation, maintain smooth workflow, and meet service deadlines.
Maintain cleanliness of workstations, utensils, and equipment throughout shifts to uphold hygiene standards.
Support meal preparation for catering events or large orders while adhering strictly to recipes and portion controls.

Skills

Proven experience in food industry roles such as restaurant cook or dietary aide with a strong understanding of food safety management.
Skilled in food preparation techniques including slicing, chopping, grilling, sautéing, and plating.
Excellent knife skills with proficiency in slicing techniques for various ingredients.
Knowledge of dietary department practices and dietary aide experience is a plus.
Ability to communicate effectively with kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations during busy periods.
Familiarity with operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
Experience in menu planning, recipe adherence, meal preparation, and catering is highly desirable.
Strong understanding of safety standards in production environments combined with attention to detail in food handling procedures.
