Traveling Superintendent – Active Acute Care Hospital Renovations

Job Summary

Skyler Design Build, LLC (“Skyler”) is seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent specializing in active acute care hospital renovations to lead complex healthcare construction projects across the United States.

Our projects occur in occupied hospitals where patient care, infection control, and life safety systems must remain operational during construction.

This role focuses on high-acuity hospital environments, including:

Operating Rooms (OR)
Emergency Departments (ER)
Sterile Processing Departments (SPD)
Hospital Pharmacies
Imaging Suites (MRI / CT / Cath Lab)
Medical Equipment Installations and Infrastructure Upgrades

Applicants must have direct experience supervising construction inside active acute care hospitals. Experience limited to medical office buildings (MOB), outpatient clinics, or general commercial interiors will not meet the requirements for this position.

Typical Project Environment

Skyler superintendents lead renovations within occupied hospitals adjacent to active patient care areas.

Projects frequently involve:

Class III or Class IV ICRA containment environments
Coordination with hospital Infection Prevention teams
Night work and phased construction
Utility shutdown planning including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas
Work around active clinical departments and sensitive medical equipment

Key Responsibilities

Lead day-to-day field operations on hospital renovation projects
Supervise subcontractors and field personnel
Implement ICRA containment and infection control protocols
Coordinate work within active clinical environments
Plan and manage utility shutdowns and MEP coordination
Maintain Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) compliance
Lead scheduling, logistics, and trade coordination
Maintain documentation including daily reports, safety logs, RFIs, and submittals

Required Experience

5+ years construction field experience
3+ years supervising construction inside active acute care hospitals
Experience with ICRA containment procedures
Proven experience leading hospital renovation projects

Preferred Experience

Operating room (OR) construction
Emergency department (ER) projects
Sterile processing department (SPD) renovations
Imaging suites (MRI / CT / Cath Lab)
Medical gas and hospital infrastructure coordination
MEP system coordination in hospital environments

Certifications (Preferred)

OSHA 30
ICRA Training or Certification
Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC – ASHE)

Travel

This position requires nationwide travel depending on project assignments.
