Full Job Description

Job Summary

The Cardiology Echo Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic cardiac and vascular ultrasound examinations in an outpatient cardiology practice. This position works closely with cardiologists and other clinical staff to obtain accurate diagnostic images, assist with patient care, and ensure efficient workflow while maintaining exceptional patient service and compliance with all regulatory standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) according to physician orders and ASE guidelines.
Perform echocardiograms, bubble studies, and carotids as ordered.
Acquire high-quality diagnostic images and Doppler studies for physician interpretation.
Review patient history and verify examination orders prior to testing.
Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the examination and answering questions.
Monitor patient condition during procedures and report abnormal findings immediately to the physician.
Ensure accurate documentation and timely completion of studies within the electronic medical record (EMR).
Maintain ultrasound equipment and report maintenance or repair needs.
Follow infection control, patient safety, and HIPAA regulations.
Maintain exam rooms and ensure adequate supplies are available.
Assist with scheduling and workflow to maximize patient throughput.
Communicate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and office staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experienced Echo Technologist required.
Experience in an outpatient cardiology practice preferred.
Current RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) through ARDMS or RCS (Registered Cardiac Sonographer) through CCI required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
Proficiency in performing adult echocardiography.
Ability to recognize abnormal cardiac findings and communicate urgent results appropriately.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Working knowledge of EMR systems and medical documentation.
Commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care.

Additional Primary Functions

Perform echocardiograms with 2D/M-mode, Doppler, color flow, 3D, and Strain.
Perform echocardiograms with bubble contrast.
Enter testing and billing information in the EMR.
Communicate directly with physicians regarding any urgent/STAT issues noted while performing testing.
Maintain practice and patient confidentiality.
Clean transducers between patients, clean examination tables between each patient, and clean and maintain ultrasound equipment as needed.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to assist patients with positioning during examinations.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Manual dexterity required to operate ultrasound equipment.
Frequent reaching, bending, and repetitive hand movements.

Work Environment & Schedule

Outpatient cardiology office.
Fridays, approximately 3–4 days per month, with the opportunity for additional days as the position grows.
Professional, team-oriented healthcare environment.

Pay: $50.00 - $90.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
