Colorado Behavioral Health delivers virtual Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programming for adults with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. Our model is fully telehealth, curriculum-driven, and built around consistent, high-engagement group work. We do not prescribe or manage medications; medication-related needs are referred to external prescribers.
Position Summary
The Group Facilitator leads structured, curriculum-based virtual group sessions for adults enrolled in our PHP and IOP levels of care. This is a credentialed clinical role — you will facilitate process and psychoeducational groups, reinforce individual treatment goals, manage group dynamics in a virtual setting, and complete timely group documentation in the EHR.
This is a per-group contract role, not a caseload role. It is well suited to a licensed or candidate-level clinician building hours, supplementing a private practice, or looking for predictable evening/weekend group blocks.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate assigned virtual group sessions (typically 60–90 minutes) per the approved program curriculum, within your credentialed scope of practice
- Lead process, psychoeducational, relapse-prevention, and co-occurring-focused groups using evidence-based modalities (CBT, DBT skills, MI, trauma-informed practice)
- Manage virtual group dynamics — engagement, participation, boundaries, and safety
- Complete group progress notes in the EHR within the required documentation window (same day preferred, no later than 24 hours)
- Escalate clinical risk, safety concerns, and client disengagement to the Clinical Director or on-call clinician per protocol
- Coordinate with primary therapists and case managers so group content reinforces individual treatment plans
- Maintain HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 compliance in all sessions and documentation
- Participate in curriculum orientation, periodic clinical calls, and required trainings
Scope Boundaries
Within this role, the Group Facilitator does not independently conduct intake assessments, provide individual therapy, determine level of care, or make diagnoses — unless separately credentialed and specifically assigned to do so by the Clinical Director. All work is performed within your DORA scope of practice, with supervision provided for candidate- and certification-level clinicians as required by Colorado rule.
Minimum Qualifications
Active, in-good-standing Colorado DORA credential in one of the following:
Fully licensed
- LPC — Licensed Professional Counselor
- LCSW — Licensed Clinical Social Worker
- LMFT — Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
- LAC — Licensed Addiction Counselor
- Licensed Psychologist (PhD / PsyD / EdD)
Candidate / certification level (supervision provided)
- LPCC — Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate
- MFTC — Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate
- SWC — Clinical Social Work Candidate, or LSW — Licensed Social Worker
- ADDC — Addiction Counselor Candidate
- CAS — Certified Addiction Specialist
- PSYC — Psychologist Candidate
Additional requirements:
- Master's degree in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, or a related clinical field (bachelor's accepted for CAS)
- Colorado residency and ability to practice in Colorado
- Demonstrated experience facilitating clinical or psychoeducational groups
- Comfort with telehealth delivery: reliable high-speed internet, working webcam and headset, and a private, HIPAA-appropriate space free of interruptions
- Ability to commit to a consistent weekly group schedule
- Successful background check and primary source credential verification
- Professional liability insurance (or willingness to obtain prior to first group)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in virtual or in-person IOP/PHP programming
- CAS or LAC credential, or active progress toward addiction credentialing
- Experience with co-occurring SUD and mental health populations
- Familiarity with ASAM criteria and Colorado BHA program standards
- Experience documenting in Kipu or a comparable behavioral health EHR
- Availability for evening (post-5:00 PM MT) or weekend group blocks
Schedule
Groups run on a fixed weekly schedule with morning, afternoon, and evening blocks available. Facilitators commit to specific recurring group slots, with 3–6 groups per week typical. Additional groups may become available as census grows, and reliable facilitators are given first option on new blocks.
Compensation Details
- $75.00 per completed group session, paid as a 1099 independent contractor
- Paid twice monthly via direct deposit
- Compensation covers session facilitation and associated documentation
- No benefits are provided with this contractor role
- Group cancellations due to low census are communicated in advance; a per-group make-good policy is outlined in the contractor agreement
Compliance
- Adherence to all Colorado Behavioral Health policies and procedures
- Compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2
- Compliance with Colorado telehealth requirements: provider identification, client identity and location verification, and documented telehealth informed consent
- No session recording without separate written client consent
- Completion of required onboarding and ongoing trainings
