Position Title: Chef / Kitchen Manager

Job Summary: The Chef / Kitchen Manager oversees the culinary operations of the kitchen, including food preparation, cooking, and presentation. This role combines hands-on cooking with team management, ensuring the kitchen runs smoothly, meets quality standards, and adheres to all food safety regulations. The Kitchen Manager is also responsible for inventory management, budgeting, staff training, and maintaining a positive, efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Culinary Leadership: Lead the kitchen team in the preparation of high-quality meals, ensuring consistency and presentation align with the restaurant's standards.
Menu Planning & Development: Create, update, and innovate the menu to keep it fresh and aligned with customer preferences and seasonal availability.
Inventory Management: Oversee the ordering, receiving, and storage of food and supplies. Track inventory to ensure ingredients are available without overstocking.
Cost Control: Monitor food and labor costs to meet budgetary goals while ensuring high-quality service. Implement portion control and waste reduction practices.
Staff Management: Hire, train, and manage kitchen staff. Set performance standards, conduct regular reviews, and provide coaching for career development.
Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure that the kitchen adheres to all local and national food safety laws and regulations, including sanitation, hygiene, and workplace safety.
Quality Control: Maintain high standards for food preparation and presentation. Oversee food storage, preparation techniques, and overall cleanliness.
Collaboration with Front-of-House: Work closely with restaurant management and waitstaff to ensure seamless communication and a smooth dining experience for guests.
Customer Satisfaction: Address guest complaints or special dietary requests quickly and professionally, ensuring satisfaction.
Problem Solving: Handle any kitchen-related challenges that arise during shifts, from equipment failures to staffing issues, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

Qualifications:

Proven experience as a Chef or Kitchen Manager, with a deep understanding of food preparation and kitchen management.
Culinary degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
Excellent time-management and organizational abilities.
In-depth knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and compliance standards.
Ability to manage budgets and optimize kitchen efficiency.
Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with both back-of-house and front-of-house teams.
Passion for food and culinary excellence.

Physical Demands:

Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

The job requires 50 to 60 hours per week during peak periods.
