Position Summary
The Tool and Die Maker is responsible for the construction, maintenance, repair, and improvement of tooling, dies, molds, fixtures, and gauges used in the precision casting manufacturing process. This position partners closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and Production teams to ensure tooling performs efficiently, meets dimensional specifications, and supports safe, cost-effective manufacturing operations. This position is for first shift.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Build a variety of molds, tools, and fixtures to close tolerances, with varying degrees of difficulty.
· Do all necessary machine operations, such as shaping grinding, milling, turning, boring, reaming, and tapping.
· Plan step after step with instructions until mold is complete for casting production.
· Train toolroom apprentices.
Qualifications
· Completion of a Tool & Die apprenticeship, vocational training program, or equivalent work experience.
· Tool & Die Maker experience in a manufacturing environment.
· Strong knowledge of machining practices, tooling materials, and heat treatment processes.
· Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments.
· Experience in precision casting, investment casting, foundry, aerospace, automotive, or metalworking industries.
· Experience with CNC machining centers and CNC programming.
· Familiarity with CAM software.
· Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
Physical Requirements
· Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the workday.
· Regularly lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally more with assistance or lifting devices.
· Ability to work with oils, lubricants, coolants, metal dust, and manufacturing equipment.
· Visual acuity necessary to perform precision measurements and inspections.
· Ability to work in a manufacturing and tool room environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
Working Conditions
· Manufacturing facility and tool room environment.
· Exposure to machinery, moving equipment, metalworking fluids, and production operations.
· Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed footwear, and other PPE as required.
