Welder / Fabricator

Job Summary
Custom Steel Supply is seeking skilled and motivated Welders/Fabricators to join our growing team in Laurens, SC. This position offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, heavy-duty steel fabrication projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where craftsmanship, safety, and teamwork are highly valued.
The ideal candidate will have experience with MIG and Flux-Core welding, the ability to read blueprints and weld symbols, and a strong commitment to producing high-quality work.
Key Responsibilities
Welding & Fabrication
- Perform MIG (GMAW) and Flux-Core (FCAW) welding on structural steel and heavy plate
- Weld pressure-rated and structural assemblies according to customer specifications
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and work instructions
- Prepare, fit, and assemble steel components for welding
- Perform grinding, cleaning, and finishing operations as required
- Inspect completed welds to ensure quality standards are met
Quality & Production
- Maintain productivity while producing high-quality work
- Verify completed parts meet blueprint dimensions and customer specifications
- Maintain accurate production documentation as required
- Support production schedules and departmental goals
Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Report equipment issues or safety concerns immediately
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S and waste reduction programs
- Work collaboratively with supervisors and team members to improve productivity and quality
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Experience with MIG (GMAW) and Flux-Core (FCAW) welding required
- Experience welding structural steel and heavy plate required
- Ability to read blueprints and weld symbols
- Strong understanding of welding safety and fabrication practices
- Ability to lift more than 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and dependability
Nice to Have
While not required, the following qualifications are a plus:
- Fabrication experience, including fitting, cutting, and grinding
- Forklift and overhead crane experience
- AWS welding certifications
Weld Test Process
Qualified candidates will complete the following hiring process:
- Augmented T-Joint weld test on 1/4-inch steel plate
- Weld will be evaluated for weld quality, penetration, profile, and overall workmanship
- Written assessment covering blueprint reading and tape measure skills
- Interview with department management
Candidates should bring steel toe boots and any personal welding gear required to complete the weld test.
