First Priority Group is a diversified manufacturer, dealer, upfitter and service provider of emergency and specialty vehicles seeking a Project Engineer to support our customers at our Flanders, New Jersey facility.
Summary
First Priority Group (FPG) is looking for a Project Engineer to join our growing team and play a key role in the design and development of emergency and specialty vehicles. The Project Engineer will be responsible for transforming customer requirements, sales specifications and project concepts into accurate, production-ready designs and engineering documentation. This position is primarily responsible for designing emergency vehicles using FPG’s current engineering and design software. The Project Engineer will prepare clear, complete and accurate 3D models, technical drawings, layouts and supporting documentation based on customer specifications, sales requirements, sketches and project notes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with sales teams to understand customer requirements, to promote the sale of company products and provide sales support.
- Confer with customers/dealers to assess needs/requests and to determine system requirements.
- Plan and modify product configurations to meet customer needs.
- Recommend improved materials or alternative design/solution to customers, documenting how such changes will lower costs or increase production.
- Prepare and deliver presentations that explain products/features to customers and prospective customers.
- Prepares detailed production drawings for manufacturing based on specifications and existing designs.
- May coordinate with/or consult other staff to design, lay out, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems.
- Create detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) identifying necessary parts, materials and equipment for emergency vehicle conversions.
- Develop production plans based on sales proposals to guide the build.
- Collaborate with Sales, Production and Engineering teams to clarify specifications and resolve discrepancies.
- Communicate with vendors to obtain quotes, confirm part fitment and ensure timely procurement of materials.
- Maintain accuracy and consistency across all documentation to ensure smooth workflow from proposal to production.
- Follow verbal and written directions to complete assigned projects efficiently.
- Support continuous improvement efforts within the BOM and planning process.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical degree from a recognized CAD training program preferred.
- Minimum of two years of design or drafting experience with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- SolidWorks experience required; SolidWorks Sheet Metal experience is a plus.
- Understanding of DC and AC electrical fundamentals.
- Automotive industry experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience using ERP software is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining team alignment and accuracy in documentation.
