Human Resources Generalist / Benefits Administrator
Job Description
The Human Resources Generalist / Benefits Administrator is a highly visible role responsible for providing comprehensive Human Resources support to a growing manufacturing organization with more than 250 employees across two shifts. This position supports benefits administration, employee relations processes, compliance activities, onboarding, recordkeeping, recruitment support, safety administration, and HR communications while maintaining a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, and responsiveness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Administer health, life, dental, and vision insurance programs, including ACA compliance requirements.
· Administer unemployment compensation and workers’ compensation programs.
· Administer employee leave programs, including FMLA, personal leave, jury duty, funeral leave, and military leave of absence.
· Assist employees with benefit elections, new-hire enrollments, qualifying life events, annual open enrollment, plan questions, and payroll deductions.
· Support the HR Director with HRIS updates and preparation for annual benefits open enrollment.
· Conduct new-hire orientation and onboarding activities, including employee handbook review and safety orientation.
· Process employee-status changes, including promotions, transfers, compensation changes, leave status, separations, final payroll information, benefit notifications, and return of company property.
· Maintain accurate and confidential personnel, payroll, benefits, training, and employment records in HR and payroll systems.
· Process employee changes related to status, compensation, position, department, and contact information.
· Create and maintain HR forms, job descriptions, policies, standard procedures, and employee communications.
· Recommend improvements that increase consistency, accuracy, efficiency, and employee understanding.
· Administer vacation programs and employee recognition programs, including suggestion programs, employee of the month, employee of the year, and plant meetings.
· Maintain the company’s authorized drivers list.
· Assist with recruitment activities, including applicant prescreening, background checks, drug-screening coordination, post-hire paperwork, job postings, and coordination with external agencies as needed.
· Assist with safety program administration, including safety committee meetings, meeting minutes, hazard identification, and coordination of corrective actions.
· Administer the hearing conservation program.
Qualifications
· Two to five years of relevant Human Resources experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Working knowledge of payroll and timekeeping processes, employee onboarding, benefits administration, recordkeeping, and general employment practices.
· Knowledge of applicable employment laws and regulations, including ADA, FMLA, NLRA, EEO, DOL, OSHA, and related requirements.
· Knowledge of ERISA requirements preferred.
· Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy and thoroughness.
· Demonstrated sense of urgency and ability to complete tasks timely and effectively.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to present information clearly to groups of employees.
· Dependable and willing to work additional hours as needed.
· Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications.
· Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
· Positive, professional attitude and approach to work.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
· Ability to identify issues quickly and escalate matters when appropriate.
· Adaptable to changes in workplace priorities and workflow.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
· Valid driver’s license and ability to drive to company-sanctioned events.
· College degree and/or PHR certification preferred.
