Overview
We are seeking a highly organized, professional, and customer-focused individual to fill the role of Town Clerk. This position is a key member of the Town’s administrative leadership team and is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Clerk’s Office while ensuring compliance with state laws and municipal requirements. Responsibilities include maintaining official municipal records, administering elections, serving as Registrar of Voters, issuing licenses and permits, overseeing General Assistance, and supporting the Town Council and Town Manager through records management and meeting administration. The Town Clerk serves as the official custodian of Town records and provides leadership and supervision to Clerk’s Office staff while delivering exceptional customer service to residents, businesses, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operations of the Town Clerk’s Office and supervise Deputy and Assistant Clerk staff.
- Serve as the Town’s official records custodian and maintain vital records, licenses, permits, and municipal archives.
- Administer local, state, and federal elections and serve as Registrar of Voters.
- Prepare and maintain Town Council agendas, meeting packets, minutes, and official records.
- Issue licenses and permits; oversee vehicle, boat, ATV, and snowmobile registrations.
- Coordinate public records requests and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
- Three to five years of progressively responsible administrative, municipal government, records management, elections, or related experience; municipal clerk experience preferred.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn specialized municipal and state software systems.
- Valid Maine driver's license required.
- Maine Certified Clerk, Notary Public, and/or Dedimus Justice certifications are preferred.
