Full Job Description

Job Responsibilities

We are seeking a Pharmacy Billing Technician / Program Coordinator I who is motivated to help individuals and families navigate life's challenges and achieve long-term wellness. This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), Central Office, 400 Otarre Parkway Cayce, SC 29033.

In this role, you will ensure timely and accurate processing of claims for William S Hall Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital and make sure all room and board and physician billing is completed monthly. You must follow up on claims filed and ensure payment is received by all insurance carriers and third party payors.

Responsibilities for the Pharmacy Billing Technician include:

Create claims once charges are closed and accurately allocated. Prepare, batch and review all claims. Submit all claims electronically in the Avatar system and FTP them into our clearinghouse for psychiatric room & board and physician billing.
Review after submission for errors or rejections in Emedix and correct any issues to insure proper and timely processing.
Perform appropriate follow up activities to ensure timely payment and to minimize aged claims. Maintain files of documentation related to claims processing. Follow up and payments or denials. Contact any insurance company or federal or state agency to obtain and/or verify any available benefits or insurance coverage information. Submit letters for collections to clients for all insurance carriers as needed on a daily basis.
Review client ledgers for accurate accounting of client charges, payments and adjustments and report to supervisor if there are any errors. Prepare paperwork for any waivers that are required.
Keep track of all insurance prior authorizations and make notes in Financial Eligibility and Managed Care in Avatar on a daily basis. Keep track of morning reports for incoming clients to be aware of new clients and folders.
Maintain Medicaid tracking log for pharmacy purposes.
Assist with mail distribution for the department.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree and be a Certified Pharmacy Technician with relevant program experience.

Additional Requirements:

Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician as defined by the SCLLRB with at least (two) 2 years of billing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
